Yo everybody. I am currently a Jeep driver but I am considering purchasing a nice 1996 Z28 that I found. There isn't really a decent board (at least that google could find) for the LT1 motor, so I figured this would be the next best thing. Anyway, I just came here to read and ask questions, hopefully in the next few weeks I will have a nice Z to share with you all.

Then about 2 months ago I got my WS6, and I love going fast. I still miss 4-wheel drive and jumping curves sometimes though...
Welocme to the site
my bro had a 98 wrangler with front&rear lockers, 4.88 gears, 40 inch SSR's, 12 inch lift, and whole aftermarket suspension, it climb up walls...he sold it and bought a toyota tacoma...said it was one of the worst decisions in his life

Right now I have a 1983 CJ7 which is basically stock except for larger tires (31s). The other Jeep is a 1969 Wagoneer with about 8 inches of lift and 40" boggers, lockers, full cage, 12 bolt axles, 383 Stroker, TH350 tranny, and some other junk.
I am selling the CJ because it is my daily driver and it gets sucky gas mileage for my 45 mile a day round trip to work and back home. I don't get paid enough for that.
I am going to test drive a 1994 Z28 on Thursday, the 1996 was already sold even though I had arranged to test drive it today...the dude sold it before me. Oh well. The 1994 is black instead of green and has grey interior instead of tan (yuck). No offense to you tan guys out there.

So I test drove this 1994 Z today. It was awesome. From the second I saw it, I knew I wanted it. Then the key turned and it was awesome. The exhaust has been tuned in a shop as well as the fuel system so it seems to run great and sound great doing it. The ignition is also upgraded I suppose with some MSD brand stuff. It originally was built up by a local shop around here (forgot the name) with a 396ci Stroker, but they took it out and sold it with a bone stock LT1 which is what it has now. It has subframe connectors, 2 inch drop, Moda wheels, Falken tires, a decent system (2 10's, nice head unit, etc), and the all important six speed. Anyway, driving this thing was a blast, with the owner saying things like "don't be afraid to give it some gas" and "just not too fast because the tags are no good." I was really impressed with the responsiveness of the transmission and the motor. The only extra thing that I could tell on the motor was polished valve covers and upgraded fuel stuff as well as a large K&N intake. It has a Borla cat back system which really added to the nice throaty sound of the exhaust. Only thing I didn't like was the fact that there were no t-tops
and it has a big goofy tach on it.
I asked about the suspension since it once was raced on a 200 shot with the 396 in it and he said that the shop that sold it to him replaced EVERYTHING underneath when they put the LT1 back in there. I figured there would be some wear and tear on it because it was at the track quite often (dude said it pulled 9's).
Anyway, I talked him down to 5400 form 6000. I am going to try to get him to go down to 4800 because I noticed some dings in the hood and on the front fascia where the Camaro emblem normally is (which it isn't). It is a great car and I don't want to talk him down too much on it because he seems really honest about everything, if he wants to stay at 5400 or something then I am sure it will be a sweet deal. I know people who own body shops anyway so I can get a great deal.
By the way it is a 1994 Z28 with only 107,000 miles on it total. The new motor only has about 13K he said.

That sounds like a very good car. T-tops make it handle worse, always remember that
Check for oil leaks. Did it have low rpm stumble at all? If it had low RPM stumble, (aka shot opti) DO NOT BUY IT unless they pay for it. I would check the window motors of course.
BTW, what color interior did it have? (I miss my 94 LT1
)

Well we let it run for about 10 minutes while we chatted and I revved it up good and I saw no oil leaks or anything like that. Also checked for leaks after driving it for about 20 minutes, around the usual places. All the interior is grey and the electronics inside work correctly including windows, locks, lights, stereo, etc...except A/C which I don't use...I am a windows down kind of guy if need be for cool air. Although I will probably fix it just to say that I fixed it. I spent the whole day at work 12:30 - 5:30 reading about that motor to where I probably knew more about it than he did, so I gave him a good set of questions that I found from various sites to ask about the way it was driven, way it drives, and blah blah blah.
About the handling with t-tops vs. without t-tops, wouldn't the subframe connectors and really tight suspension make up for that somewhat? Doesn't matter to me really, I plan on doing a targa conversion somewhere down the line, so I will have to cage it eventually anyhow.
Just have to gain some more information about the conversion so I can start collecting.
Peace
