If you end up looking for them.. I know this sounds stupid.. But, I actually found my F-Body on cars.com and it is in amazing condition.. So I'd try there. Goodluck man!

Definitely would go with the LS1... 98's can easily be found for under 10k so save some more.

Again, thank you all for answering my questions and the greetings. I'm pretty sure $7000 is the most money I'll be able to get by the end of summer. Im in highschool and play football so I basically don't have time to work except in the summer (I could find a couple odd hours here and there but I like having a social life). The KBB for my car is around $6,200 (give or take a hundred bucks) but I'd settle for an even 6. Over the summer I work 40 hours a week and earn about $2.3k over the summer. This would put me over 8 grand but I can't spend all my $$ on a car and leave none for insurance/gas, repairs, etc.
Whichever I end up choosing I'd like for it to be under 85,000mi. I know it will vary depending on owner, maintainence, etc. but how long are the LT1, LS1, 5.0 and 4.6 motors good for (estimate)? Also, I'm aware that the LS1 responds the best to mods, but what would it take to get a 4.6, 5.0, or LT1 into the mid 13's?

Welcome to the site. If I were you, I would't be too surprised to find an LS1 for a good price. Before I got my LS1 T/A, I went to look at a Z28 with 29k for only $9000.00. Needless to say it sold in a couple of days, but they can be found for good prices. If not, I'd go with the LT1. LT1's can be made very fast. 5.0's arent a bad choice, they can be made wicked fast as well. Either way, just make sure you are happy with your decision. Good luck with your search.

GoldenVelvet, I was considering boosting my Prelude but I'd like to own an American car because first of all it's American... and second no one can deny that a V8 sounds better than any import. I think American cars have some type of superiority over imports even when just sitting at a stop light , none the less racing one. I want the muscle
The main superiority the domestic has is its on its own territory(American soil), and its RWD where as the fastest FWD import will be owned as soon as the light turns due to traction.

I was just owned last night by my buddies 95 honda civic that im proud to say i helped build. Its a 1.6 liter motor that puts 295hp to the wheels. Again, from a stop hes toast. You gotta give respect where its due.

Good advice here.

i got my 2000 SS for $8900, so if you can find a '98 Z28 or Formula, you'd be pretty much right there at your budget. i love LT1s too, but i'm a bit biased towards my LS1.

I waited very paitently, goin though multiple cars till I found My '02 Z28, dead stock with 8,500 miles on it for 14,000. That price is way low for what they normally run in New York by me (not upstate). I was on cars.com while bs'n with my buddy (whom has a SOM 02 SS) saw this car and at 12:30 at night went to see it, went back the next day and filled out my paper work. She was mine the day after

Point taken I should have thought about that, most middle aged women do not know how to drive LS1's.

I'd say go with an LT1, I am 17 myself and I am in the process of selling my 1991 z28 for about 5500-6000 to buy a 94-96 Z28. I have test drove quite a few 6 speed LT1s and they are badass as hell. Not to mention LT1s sound VERY sweet. I test drove a 95 z28 6 speed and a 1998 z28 6-speed in the same day and they really didnt seem too much different speed wise, although it did seem like the 1998 had a little more at higher speeds, either way both very fast cars, the LT1s are just cheaper and have cheaper parts. I think LT1s run low 14's stock, and LS1's run mid 13's stock. If you wanted to get an LT1 into the 13's i would imagine all it'd take was a good exhaust system and a K&N air filter. An LS1 might not be such a bad choice either, but personally I've decided to wait to invest so much money into my car only being 17, and an LT1 would suit me very well. I also think the 93-97 camaro looks better than 98-02, although the 98-02 trans am looks better than the 93-97. It's all about what you want man, can't go wrong either way.
