New guy in SoCal . .
I am a 30 year old male with 2 daughters, 1 wife and a mortgage! I have been into Chevys since the age of 14 or so - and now my chance has come to get my old Chevy up to my likings. I do 3D design and CNC programming for a living (anybody need stuff modeled - give me a shout).
My toy box includes a '66 El Camino, '96 Buell S1 Lightning, and my daily put put is a '98 Cavalier Z24.
Reason I finally registered - I am going to wrench a little on the Elky and was planning to go the 'ol 1st Gen small block route when I realized that what I really want to do is go the new-school route and install an LS1 and six-speed.
My knowledge: the most I've been into a motor is intake and heads on an old '77 Elky, brought the heads to a machine shop to free-up a bent exhaust valve, then reinstalled the heads and had a buddy help get the timing back to the right deal.
I have done the suspension and brake modifications on the Z24 as well, removing the stock stuff for Koni and Eibach components, and Baer brake upgrades (entire front spindle shipped assembled), and rear sway bar (with custom welded mounting brackets).
I've done the top end of the motorcycle as well - replacing the stock rocker box paper gaskets for metal ones and updating the primary chain tensioner in the trans case.
What I'm saying is that I'm mechanically inclined and very confident of my work, but I'm slow - like to have the music on while working and I just haven't had a huge amount of time to get into different areas of building up rides. I think I'm slow the first time at just about everything - but then I get real fast and precise as time goes on.
I'm looking to do this LS1 into the '66 El Camino and I'll probably be on here regularly for a while.
Oh yeah - hello LS1tech.com users!

A few hours from you calys968 - so you must be south of San Diego or something?
I downloaded those tempelates for the motor mounts - cool stuff - I think I'll use one of the styles for mounting the LS1 into the '66. I have a machine shop at my disposal so if anybody need stuff machined give me a shout.
I've seen a '66 Nova (ChevyII) in Anaheim with an LS1 installed - but the guy wasn't too excited about the motor because he said he can't get it tuned to the way he likes it. He fired it up for me though - sounded pretty cool to me.
