Hello! Figured I'd finally register here after hearing reccomendations from some other people on other sites. Quick little introduction, 31 year old industrial/electrical engineer from the York, PA area. Always been a fan of f-bodys specifically firebirds. Bought an '89 GTA with a 305TPI/5-spd about 8 years ago. Still have it but I've made an addition - 2001 T/A Firehawk, 6-spd, chrome firehawk wheels, bilstien suspension, auburn diff, bright red w/ dk grey leather. Also played guitar for over 16 years, anything from classic rock to metal to progressive rock/metal. Looking forward to hangin out and learning all I can about LS1 performance.

Well actually I'm South of York so I'm even closer yet. I get down in the baltimore, towson, timonium area from time to time myself, mostly cause there's not much to do up here, lol. Must be one of those grass is greener on the other side deals.

Welcome, my engineering brother. Did some mechanical engineering just off of the beautiful Susquehanna river, living in Willow St Pa. I am new to this site also but I am amazed at the technical expertise on this site. Anything from circuit diagrams, forced induction theory, advanced thermodynamics in regard to Nitrous injection into an internal combustion engine !!! I was having Thermo 201 flashbacks .Not to mention cool pictures, racing stories etc that are available. The FAQ's are a gold mine of info. Welcome and enjoy

Earl

The good:
Body is straight
No rust
Car runs and drives

The bad:
Paint is horrible
110k miles (which I guess isn't too bad considering the age)
3rd gear is moody (original T5)
chews up ECM's (still tracking this problem down)
pulls hard right when braking
doors sag bad
headlight motors (stripped gears)
interior worn out

My plan right now (after I get my daily back on the road) is to restore it to as original as possible, better paint of course. Keep the 305, just gonna go through it and freshen it up, maybe different cam, maybe port/polish heads, that sort of thing. Not looking for a screamer, just a fun weekend car with some ***** to it. Eventually I would like to get an '87-'90 Formy to modify though - someday.

Sounds pretty good. The 5 spd./305 GTA's are pretty rare.
Glad to hear your gonna keep it. I had an 87 Trans Am before this one. 305carb/5 spd., with very similar problems as yours. I sold it not long after bying the 96.
I'm with you, as I would love to have a 87-90 formula, preferably yellow, but I have yet to come across anything good.
What color is the GTA?

I think GM called it "Flame Red Metallic", I figured in it's current state it's not worth a whole lot and I'd kick myself years later for selling it so it stays in the woods behind the house until I get some time to work on it.
