Hello all, new.
Hey everyone, new to the site. I dont drive an LS1, but I have been dreaming of one for quite a while. Soon that dream will be a reality. The car i drive currently is a 2004 grand prix gtp comp g (entirely too long of a title for a car) For what it is, its quick. But nothing compared to an 03-04 cobra, mach 1, ls1 etc. My big question is this though; how hard is it to mod a ls1 in diy fashion? My mechanic knowledge is quite sub par. I can change oil, power steering, wheels, all the simple maintance things. But good god, beyond that, Im LOST. I read some of the write ups here, and they were very well put together, but I still am pretty lost. Perhaps there is someone in the Atlanta area that could show me a thing or two about these cars? If not, is there a LS1 for dummies guide? I truely want to learn, and I dont want to be one of these people who buy all these mods and have them installed without getting their hands dirty. Sorry for the long read.

Welcome and you can go to your local book store and look up a book called how to build up a LS1/LS6. It is a white book and it has a lot of stuff in it that will show you how to do the mod's. But if you can't find it then I know there is someone on here that is in your area that can help you out.Oh and congrats on the new ride.

Welcome! As 1FASTBIRD stated, you can go to the local book store and find "How to build high-performace Chevy LS1/LS6 V-8's" by Will Handzel. It will give you a good look at the many things you can do to your LS1 F-Body, as well as stats, history, and casting numbers. Check out the southern section, most of us ATL people OWN that! You'll find alot of locals who will be happy to help you out when you get your LS1. As far as working on it yourself?
I read the write up on LS1howto.com on a cam swap, and after asking questions, and RESEARCHING the things that go wrong, i installed my own cam on my days off work. I can tell you, i'm no mechanic either. But this site is a great place to search, and ask questions of the MANY who have ripped out, swapped out, and souped up these cars. Good luck!
