Default New Z28 in NorCal

Hey, I just picked up my first LS1 about a month ago. I got a 2002 Z-28 hardtop with 6spd. It has black leather, ground effects (minus annoying front), 22k miles.

I plan on putting a lid, catback (either Magnaflow or SLP Loudmouth), short throw shifter, and some new wheels on it.

I got it for $16k before taxes.

I'm in Folsom, which is about 15 miles northeast of Sacramento.

Looks good bud! Id add a slight suspension drop to the list of things to do also. But mods are addicting, ya do one, ya gotta get the next! I suggest the Pro 5.0 shifter if your getting a short shifter, most seem to like that the best.

I live in Newcastle, about 20 minutes from Folsom up Aurburn-Folsom road. Maybe I'll see you around there sometime.

I live out here in the bay area. But i go to sacramento to race quite often during the racing season. I have the pro 5.0 shifter and i absolutely love it. It is a really nice shifter. If you have any questions or need help with anything, let me know and ill see what i can do to help you out. Congrats on the LS1.

Damn. I see a silver Z28 around a nearby Porsche dealership all the time. But I'm in the Bay Area so it's not you

Oh yeah and congratulations on your car. I've only had mine for a month now.

I was thinking about getting a slight suspension drop, but I'm not sure yet. I'll have to see what it looks like after the new wheels. I've also heard good things about the Pro 5.0 Shifter, which is nice to have verified.

I have no plans to race it until I get some mods, and even then, not often. This is actually my first manual transmission car (I'm 22), so I'm still getting completely used to shifting and all that jazz.

Also, does anyone have any idea what % tint I have? Hardly seems legal...

You can have as much tint on the back as you want. I don't know the percentage that's legal in CA for the front windows though. It's a safety issue for police and they need to be able to see through it. Which makes me wonder why you can blackout the rear glass. Anyway I've been pulled over already, ugh, and didn't have an issue. And my hatch glass is nearly limo as far as I can tell. Didn't look at the no-front-plate either. But with that I've driven by several, how shall I put this bored-traffic-enforcement-just does radar all day-cops and they didn't go after me either. Of course now that I've said that I'll probably get a fix-it tomorrow morning =/ Doh!

Yeah, I was talking about my side windows. They look pretty dark in person, and seems significantly darker than my friend's car, which is the lowest for legal. Whatever, no hassles yet, although cops do seem to watch me go by pretty intently.

I'm thinking about getting one of those billet-style grilles and just losing the front plate, since I know a few people who don't have a front plate and haven't had any problems.

I didn't think that any tint was legal on the side windows in CA. BTW, once you put bigger wheels on the car, it'll look like a 4x4 and you'll likely want a drop.

Any tint darker that what rolled out of the factory isn't legal in this "great" state. Especially if it's the rear window cuz that's what the cops are trying to look through. Either way, I think it's worth the risk of getting pulled over. Good luck from SoCal!

Ah well, it looks pretty awesome, so whatever.

I think I've decided against the Loudmouth, since I hear it drones, and I think that would drive me nuts, and I guess the Magnaflow is too quiet. What about the TSP Rumbler? I've heard it's a pretty good compromise between too loud and too quiet.
