Another noob snooping around
Ive been lurking around here for a couple of weeks trying to get up to speed on the new strange world I am entering. My project was originally going to be a 72 Caddy 500, 4l80E, and a home made double transfer case to be shoehorned into a 79 IH Scout with 35 inch tires. The project has been dormant for a few years due to work and relationships.
Last summer for a variety of reasons I decided it was best to scrap my entire powertrain and go with a GenIII setup. I found a 99 5.3 complete with trans, transfer case, computer, full harness and a pickup bed of other parts from the doner truck for 1000 bucks delivered to my door from wisconsin. A couple of weeks ago I found a great deal on a 02 camaro ls1 missing only the alternator and computer.
Now its time for me to blend the 5.3 and LS1 together into the best combo for my uses, get the wiring and computer sorted, get it bolted up in the rig and get it on the road.
I will also be on the truck forum, but there is a lot of great trickle down tech to be learned from here

Its going to be a daily driver as well as a compentent offroader. Cooling was going to be a pita, port fuel injection was going to cost a arm and a leg, and the whole powertrain with a 203 gearbox, Caddy and 4l80E was way too heavy and bulky. Everyone is trying to make their crawlers lighter these days and I figure on saving at least 300 or more pounds with my new combo
