Hello EveryOne!

Hi Y'all! I'm from Carriere, Mississippi, about 50 miles north of New Orleans on I-59. I have looked on this forum for a while as a guest and have finally joined.

Hey Nifty97z! There are parts of New Orleans East that still show damage and can be seen from the I-10 coming in from the East. But the french quarter area is in good shape.

hmmm...well SSippi, I'd be coming in on I-10 from the west (from Arizona) so I probably wouldnt even see it unless I miss an exit or something

. I'll be on mid-tour leave from good ole Iraq. Any recommendations or complaints? Things I should know b4 hand??? And whats the french quarter like 1st hand?

My recommendation would be to have reservations before you get to the Big Easy as it has a reputation for getting sold out quickly. The french quarter is virtualy unchanged physically. Just be careful about at night and stay on well lighted roadways when on foot. Most of the flooding occured in the East and Lakefront areas. The western part of the metro area, Metairie and Kenner, was spared from flooding. The Superdome is back in business and the convention center also. So get intouch with a travel company and set up some things to do like a river boat ride, one of my favorites, you can take a guided carriage ride/tour of the french quarter also, there is the Cafe du Monde for full bodied and flavor southern coffee and beignets (pastry). Now down here in N.O. some people just eat to live and others live to eat and so we have fabulous resturants and one of my favorites is the Palace Cafe on Canal street and No Reservations required a top notch place to eat. So if you get time come on down to New Orleans and pass a good time with us!
