Default New from the UK

Hi all,

Just registered and thought I'd say hi from across the pond. I'm going to be trying to fit an LS engine to an old British coupe (Rover P5B) that originally used the Buick derived Rover V8 so I thought I'd better get talking to the experts!

Do expect some daft questions!

Cheers,

SF

WELCOME!! Given your username, I was expecting an LSx into a Tiger or Talbot conversion. Has anyone over there done this yet??

Hi dailydriver, I don't know of any but it wouldn't surprise if a Tiger had received one. I may be leading you a little astray with my user name as it refers to my Talbot Sunbeam Lotus, a little known hatchback from 1980-1982 that was used for Rallying in Europe and won the World Rally Chamionship in 1981. They are fairly unremarkable looking but go very well and are historically quite interesting.

But enough of that, my P5B NEEDS a LSx engine!! I just need to learn a little (or a lot)!! The shell re-build is nearly finished and it's time to start thinking about trial fitting the engine & components.

I hope to learn all I need on here!

Cheers,

SF

Hi There,

Well I'm really starting from the beginning and haven't even decided on what engine to even start with yet, I'm going to put up a thread to ask a few simple questions such as why should I choose an LS1 over an LS2 or any other LSx type and which ones were alloy blocked etc. That's my main preference, alloy blocked and capable of at least 400hp, it also needs to go on an auto box (which I also need to choose). Once decided I'll need to find a source of the base engine either in, or delivered to, the UK and then find out good reputable companies (in the US) to help with the parts I'll need for the re-build.

So many questions but having done a bit of searching and reading on the forum you are a friendly and knowlegable bunch which is going to be of great help.

I'm looking forward to it!

Cheers,

SF

That's EXACTLY what I was referencing when I mentioned "Talbot". I am VERY familiar with these cars as I was following World Championship rallying from back in the Group 4 days (back then that was no easy task as my ONLY source of info was Autosport!! ). The two coolest rallying n.a. hatches ever were the Lotus Sunbeam Talbot and the Chevette (NO my fellow Yanks, NOT the $h!tbox we got!! FAR from it!!). Maybe the Metro 6R4 as well, but that's another story! This (the L.S.T.) is what I also thought (along with the Tiger) you might be trying to squeeze an LSx into!!!!

Impressive that you know about this quirky little hatch back, I have a pair, the one below and one undergoing a restoration!

I know of one that had a Rover V8 fitted so the LS1 shoud fit!!
