Default changed ford guy

hey guys, im james, and im a 19 year old college student in VA. My family has always owned nothing but fords. when i got my license, i broke the trend and bought a '88 chevy k5 blazer with 350tbi and lifted it and was all into the offroad scene. i then bought another chevy, a '85 k30 diesel and proceeded to lift it as well. the problem is, neither of them are as much to drive daily as i had envisioned, so im on the hunt for a fun dd

back in '01, my dad bought a triple black svt cobra convertible new and since then, its only been driven 6k miles. it really is fun as hell to drive (i know its not a chevy, but still haha) anyways, i originally was lookin for an older 5.0 stang, but i had no idea that an ls1 car could be had within the limitations of my budget. im new to ls1's but from my friends who talk about them and the guys on the mustang forums who say how much potential ls1's have. they've gatta be amazing if ford guys talk about swapping them into their older stangs!

i'll always have a place in my heart for my dad cobra, but at the same time, id love to spank on the street

anyways, thats just a brief intro. thanks for the great forum, i look forward to asking tons of questions toward building a fast street car. but first i need to find a car to start with!

Welcome. All of us can help you learn plenty about LSX's and you will find other Ford lovers here too. Hell I had an SS then an 03 KB Cobra and for now an SRT8 300. Next will be a C6 Z06, I love all American iron.

You know, there is a lot of respect among the muscle car owners. You can see in my sig I just sold my WS6 to get an 03 Cobra, but I still love the LSx engines. They are great and I highly recommend them.

The great thing about this site is that you will find a few SVT folks among the LSx. For all of our good natured banter, we try to shoot it to you straight and you find true love among us all.

Have fun.

You are on the right track. You should be able to get a high mileage LS1 camaro or formula for CHEAP during the winter seasons if your not too picky.

btw, nice cobras guys! my dad is still pissed that he had no idea they were gona put the supercharger and 6spd in them in '03 or he woulda waited for one. we thought about trading it in to get one, but he woulda lost a bunch of money. his '01 has never been in the rain and the motor is clean enough to eat off of, and the dealers wouldnt really appreciate that.

Tell your dad to mod that damn thing! The 01's are never going to be worth what the Terminators will be. They're just not as bold and legendary, if you will. I loved my True Blue '01 but it would've been a million times better if it were modded. The stock suspension is too loose and those transmissions are garbage. Notice GM used their heads and put the T-56 in all the way back in '93. Ford was 10 years behind!

Enough about the Fords though. Make sure you stick with '98 or newer because the market and amount of information out there for LT1's is a lot more limited than LS1's. Not to mention LS1's respond better to mods, are lighter, have individual coils...need I go on?

WELCOME!!

If only the above were the case on here, all would be well with the world (or at least LS1Tech). The sad truth is that many on here would rather drive a (Hon)duh (let alone a Poopra) than a Blue Oval product. I NEVER understood this.
I on the other hand welcome and defend ALL domestic nameplated/American muscle product.
