Default New LS1 from GMPP

All,
I'm a new member. I building a reproduction '58 Corvette. I bought an Art Morrison C5 frame. I bought an LS1 from GMPP, part number 17801267. The "GM Parts Direct" web site says that the LS1 has a Corvette style oil pan...sump and oil filter toward the back of the engine. What I got was an engine with a GTO style oil pan...sump and oil filter in the front. It won't fit on my frame. The Chevy dealership says I should have researched it before buying. I'm not sure what I have except that I suppose it was meant for a GTO. Any one have any experience or ideas about this?
Any information would be extremely appreciated.

Thanks...Bob

Im not quite sure on the difference between the corvette and F-Body pan but I do know the GTO is much different. You need to change the oil pan over to a vette pan and will also need the oil pickup tube that attatches to the oil pump im sure.

Sounds like a pretty neat car, good luck with it and welcome to LS1TECH.

seems kind of lame for them to tell you that. if I were you I'd take the print out to them and say "look here, it says the pan is a vette pan, this is not a vette pan" They should be able to swap it out if you raise enough hell, lol.

good luck with the project, and welcome to ls1tech!

I'm going to talk to the GM district manager this week. I bought a new (Vette) oil pan for it but I think I read that the GTO has a 6.5 qrt oil pan and the Vette has a 5 or a 5.5. What's the reason for the bigger pan??? Another thing is that if this is a GTO engine (400hp), I would like to positively identify it as such. I hope the GM guy can tell me how to do it.
