AES racing 390 shortblock
I ordered a 390 from Fraser 1st week of January, took about a month longer then promised, quality was top notch and I've had it in the car for a couple of months and it's running great.
1. Ordered a dragonslayer crank, Callies slide their completion date on a batch of cranks, also after completing the cranks they had to have bobweights made for rough balancing.
2. Pistons where on back order but didn't hold up the build.
Here's the bottom line, AES custom orders many of their components and had very little control of delivery times. The vendors aren't always realistic with their eta on parts.
Once the part shortage is filled like in my case the crankshaft, they had a batch of engines and owners all wanting their engines.
I can think of 3 machine shops I would consider to build a engine and AES is one. Every machine shop deals with part shortages unless you buy a off the shelf engine.
