I sent them an email this morning hoping for the best for them. I've got a whole lot of parts myself over there (transmission, 434 shortblock, etc.) and am worried as well but you must be concerned for their safety first. I hope nothing happens to anyone or any parts but if it does that is just how it is unfortunately.

Yeah it sucks down there... I know quite a few people there... I guess it was taking close to 7 hrs to get from south houston to north houston. People were running out of gas before they could get out of the city. Some of my family left at 2am this morning, and it took them 5 hours to get 100 miles on the "backroads". Gas stations are running out of gas, and others have a long wait. Hopefully they make it out safely!! Good luck to everyone in Houston!!!

i wonder what kinda safety measures you would use when something like this happens??? do you lock everything in a room?? do you bag it and make it airtight??? i mean jesus what a shitty situation they are in... performance parts that have to be in perfect condition.

well parts that could get damage from water would be bagged etc. I would imagine they've removed items from the floor that need to be, and have everything in order.
No fear though, when the motor is shipped out to you, it will be in perfect condition. The HPE crew wouldn't ship you a motor unless it was 100%.
Good luck and best wishes to the guys at HPE and other Houston area based shops.

That's the beauty of race parts, if they can withstand the forces of 500 to 1000 HP, they can handle a whussy little hurricane

Not many people in town are going to work. I am working from home today, because I would have spent 4 hours getting TO work and another 5 getting home FROM work. Skip that noise!

I've been talking to Erik everday for the past couple of weeks. He mentioned getting out for a few days, so I assume you will not be able to contact them. All you can do is wait for the hurricane to blow over and see how they favored. HPE isn't going to leave anyone hangin. I wouldn't worry about it. I think were going to catch a large amount of flak from the hurricane here in NW LA. also. Looks like we'll be getting the right front quadrant, which is supposed to be the worst. Hopefully the wind will have slowed a bit before it gets here, but our city can't hardly withstand a 30mph thunderstorm, muchless tropical force winds and tornado's. It should be interesting though, it'll be my first hurricane.

I pray the best for HPE and everyone else down there!

I managed to get my 408 from them in between hurricanes. Can't wait to get it finished up and in!

I'm sure everything will be fine for you. I'm sure they would either supply you with a perfectly built engine (might be a little later than promised though), or if they are going to be down for some time, they would just credit you back since no product was delivered.

They seem like a great bunch to me!

Don't worry guys. The shop is on the NW outskirts of Houston, and the storm seems to be headed towards the border of Louisina. We might get a little wind, but nothing to worry about...

On a side note, traffic is terrible. I spent 6 and a half hours yesterday and got 22 miles from my house (taking the backroads towards Austin). Decided it was a bigger risk of getting stranded on the side of the road with no gas, then it was to get hurt by the hurricane, so we turned around and came back (took 30 minutes). Never seen anything like it before...

Stay safe and call sometime next week. As soon as we've got power we'll be back in business.

Chuck

Yes I think everything will be fine although I am sure power will go on and off several times and there will be some flooding in parts of Houston. It took me almost 5 hours to get home over here in Katy from the shop and I have not been able to return because of all the crazy traffic.

The HPE shop building is a brand new metal building and in an industrial area way up on the NorthWest side so it as as far away from the hurricane as we could be and still be in Houston at least. We are NOT in any storm surge risk area either although with the rain there will be a lot of water I'm sure everywhere.

At this time me and my family are headed to La Grage where my grandparents live and we will be back asap hopefully. Every 4 hours the storm seems to be heading back more toward Louisiana so it is good for us but especially bad for them. I see on CNN right now that the levees are already giving way again so I guess so far we really have had it easy.
