Yes, flat.

Not flat = dropped sleeve = not sealing properly.

i cant believe i am hearing this..

i always thought MMS was a halfway decent company. i know there is no sponsor bashing allowed, but i can say that after this and a few other things i have heard.. i will never spend a dime with them.

MY thoughts EXACTLY! that's a bunch of $hit. all that cash and they can't do anything.

I'll never buy a damn thing from them. You don't ask people to step up, you expect it.

This is more like things I've heard about them than not...I coulnd't afford to look the other way.

I got some shots of the car today. Here's two cracks and two recesses in the sleeve.

That tiny black spot between the sleeves is a crack.

Larger pictures here http://www.iateyourcat.net/ss/crack1.html

According to Mike Moore the sleeves are just too big for the block. The width of the block between the sleeves isn't enough to compensate for heat. Maybe that's why People are using the Darton Sleeves now or a C5R block. That doesn't explain the recesses in the sleeves though... Anyway, it should be rebuilt and in in about a week and a half and I'm going to pull the MMS229 cam and put an MTI S1 in while it's apart.

At this point I really have no choice... I've already got so much invested that I can't put the stock block back in. Anybody wanna buy a nice van?

Those sleeves have dropped. Not just anyone can sleeve motors. I had no idea MMS did!!!! ANyhow that is a terrrible job no matter how you look at it!

Also to answer the original question. The C5R must be modified for wet sump operation. Originally it is a dry sump block. Lingenfelter has there own version of it with wet sump operation....and we all know their product is proven. Plus it comes with a 2 year warranty

...does this prove that re-sleeving blocks is near impossible? ...i heard the Darton sleeve system is about the only proven method, however...

....You should expect MMS to make good on their defective work...I would seek legal relief if they refuse..

Did you consider going with an LQ4 iron block instead of the exoitic re-sleeved aluminum block or the increadably expensive C5R block?

I'll get in touch with Mike directly once the engine is fixed. I think we can work out something fair.

I think all of the new big bore blocks are using the Darton Sleeves. Here's a pic:

They're modular and really look like a nice design. They appear to eliminate the thin wall problem and look like the best way to use a stock aluminum block. In fact, based on that picture and where my cracks are in the block, I could still have my block bored to use the Darton sleeves. It's a little late now for me to do that but maybe the blocks not scrap metal.

I thought about the iron block but I want the car to handle like stock on the street as well as launch well at the track. I've heard the iron block kind of screws that up.

...the iron blocks are about 75lbs more in wieght than the alumimum blocks ...but you can buy them for a mere $700 plus shipping...

...How much is a Darton block including the core?

...A C5R is out of the question for me...

...i'm hoping i can do a LQ4 iron stroker for $4K and change....just now investigating it, however...

Good luck...

I was looking at LPE today and it's $2750 for the sleeved blcok and $600 for the core. Link Here

I spent about three months looking before I ordered anything. The downside is that you wind up wanting more and more but the upside is that you can often get stuff in group purchases and the info/experience you gain from other peoples problems is a great benefit. There are a lot of people here who really know their ****.

Wise choice passing on the boat anchor iron block.Hopefully MMS will do something for you.I would have bought the C5R,but went with ARE's resleeved big-bore block instead.Keep us posted on your combo, and MMS response to your complaint.Good luck.

I have Al says "there's no warranty on nitrous engines." It doesn't matter that I haven't run nitrous. It's not even installed yet.

What baffles me is that none of you folks relaized that NOT ONE company out there will warranty a Block/Engline that's GOING TO BE USED with a POWER ADDER. MMS has no idea is anyone is telling the truth, etc. Heck, even MTI doesn't warranty the Engines that are used in combination with a Power Adder. When you are buying Aftermarket Racing Products, not everything is necessarily warrantied/guaranteed. Buy Beware when making such decisions.

I understand that too. The thing is, I just got the intake back from NX in March after they installed the fuel solenoids on the direct port backwards, got the car back in May, and put 700 miles on the engine only (less than 400 before it started getting hot). The nitrous isn't even installed. Most of the kit is still sitting in an unopened box with an MMS shipping label on it. The nitrous is going in after the engine is broke in.
