Default 1996 Impala SS

Any of you LS4 owners have the chance to race one of these yet. I have always been a fan of the old LT1 impala's just wonderin how they stack up against our cars. I know when they first came out therey were pretty quick and easy to mod just wonderin how they stack up against the LS4.

Stock vs. stock it's not even close. LS4 with ease. Naturally there is a HUGE aftermarket for the LT1 so it could be made very fast. But in stock form it's only roughly a mid 15 sec car, low 7 sec 0-60.

enh, our trannies wouldn't be able to had serious modding. The big restriction for us is that before you can really add power you need to drop 2-3k on a trannie improvement.

Actually... LT1s don't have a very big aftermarket We're much like you LS4 owners, but a bit worse. While yes, we DO have aftermarket parts for our motors, we can't just swap on GEN I SBC parts and call it a day :\ Lots of modification is required for that. LS4s on the other hand, at least share many common pats as the other GEN III and IV motors, allowing you to swap quite a few performance parts. I wish we had that ability! GEN II was a patch to hold over till GEN III motors. Would be awesome to be able to swap on LT5 heads Problem there is, even if we did, the intake would HAVE to go with it since it's a 16 intake-port head :\

I would say that with the HP difference being pretty significant, the LS4 cars would fairly easily walk the LT1 brothers.

BTW, I'm honored to have made your sig

I believe he is asking how the cars would stack up, stock for stock.

Why would he be interested in a 383 impala that runs 11.0's?

Funny you ask. I had a 94 Caprice Classic with an lt1. I added 3.73 gears, 1.6 rockers (stock is 1.5), slp headers, flowmasters and an x pipe, custom homemade intake, coolant bypass mod, larger stock gm 3.5 inch maf housing, torque converter from a 4.3 car (slightly higher stall) and the hypertec tuner (cool for the time). It ran 14.1's on 275/60-15 street tires. I sold it to freind and we went to the track together and my 06 Impala SS was running 14.0's on the same day with just a vector tune on the same day the ole' caprice was runnin the 14.1's. Last year, I was at the track with my TBSS and lined up against a 94-96 Impala SS with a lt4 hot cam. He ran a best 0f 13.98. I talked to him a little bit after. I loved my ole caprice back in the day when it could smoke mustangs and such, but times have changed and the avg car is alot faster than they were in the mid 90's. The last days of the caprices' life with me it was used as a tow vehicle. So I sold it and bought an old beater truck. By the way, bone stock on 235/70-15 white walls the ole Caprice ran 15.0's, very consistant car.
