Default need some help... crank pulley??

can anyone fire up their car let it get to operating temp idle and look at your crank pulley and tell me if it wobbles a little at idle. Im getting a rattle from somewhere in that area and i thought it was the tensioner pulley but now ive noticed the crank pulley is wobbling a little.

Doh! Hope it 's not the thrust bearing going out... the same thing has happened on our intrepid. It started out just with a little noise, then got worse until a few weeks later it's full blown engine knock! Now that we know what to look for we can see the play in the crank pully.

*edit* Does the noise go away when you apply throttle?

yes the noise pretty much goes away with throttle. i believe the noise is from the tensioner pulley which i will be tackling asap. does anyone have any idea why else there may be a little wobble in the crank pulley. as soon as rpms go up it is as straight as an arrow. My boat does the same minor wobble and has never had a problem knock on wood

Yea, start with the pulley's first. In my case we had a slight noise that went away with throttle... then developed into full engine knock, but it still went away with throttle. Turns out the thrust bearing was shot, and when you apply throttle the crank would push one way or the other and stop making noise until the RPM's came back down.
