Yea you're thinking of the diagonal braces that come stock. These help alleviate body roll, especially the one in the rear.

Where do you guys buy the modified one? I know they are available thru GM. Got a part #? I believe there is an OEM one that is clearanced for the alternator off a different car, just cant remember which one.

I take them off when I do some of the 3.4 intakes, I just cant remember which one has the bend in it.

drcustomparts.com is where the modified one comes from. It's just a standard GM bar with a groove cut out of the bottom so it clears the alternator.

I know what bar you're talking about, they're not pretty to look at though haha.

Kinda a ripoff, dont you think?

Part #12498648 which is for front and rear STBs is only $32 list price from a dealer. I can put the "dent" in the front one myself to clear the alternator rather than paying all the money he is charging. I mean for $85 he takes a $30 bar, puts a dent in it, and ships it to you for free. Talk about easy money for him. Not to mention that you can buy the front and rear bars from GM for less than an individual bar, lol.

He has another guy actually do the bars. The brackets are what he makes himself.

For what the standard bar costs, yea perhaps it's pricey, but not everyone has the capability. Which that's how it is with everything. If you can do it yourself you can do it on the cheap, if not you gotta pay. Expensive or not, he has plenty of business with the bars and brackets.

Well how about you start a business for us to do the dent on the cheap and you make a little pocket cash? Or...if you document you process, write ups are always few and far between.

Also, whats the difference between installing STB's and a sway bar...is it the same thing? Sorry, another dumb question.

I'm gonna order a pair for myself from my work. I'll get some 2x4's together and stack the bar in between the wood so the finish doesn't get marred, and then put in the hydraulic press. If its easy enough to do, I might just take you up on your advice

No, they aren't the same thing. A sway bar prevents body roll, a STB prevents body flex.
