I just got my car like a month ago Its an 05 gxp with 35,000 miles mint condition, but my damn trannie just blew. Did anyone else have this problem?

Mine blew at 48,000 miles. I just had a performance rebuild done to it. If you need a good builder and your car isn't under warranty then give me a pm. The builder I used builds all the local 3800's (they have the same trans.) and did a great job on mine. I replaced just about everything in it and upgraded to 3.29's.

got my 05 in January with 64k on it and 12 days later... Boom. Never happier about buying that warranty! Once the warranty is up though (3 yr/36000 mi) I'm getting a beefed up Zzp trans... and a turbo >

They have gone on cars that aren't driven hard at all.

As for converting it to RWD as mentioned, have fun dropping $15k+ on that.

Would be pretty badass though...I was thinking about what all had to be done last night to do the swap.

Oh yea I think it would be badass to have no doubt. However just not justifiable price wise unless you're that intent on having something unique and got the extra coin to spend on it.

But come on, why would you wanna get rid of torque steer, it's so fun. lol.

Why not swap in the 4t60 with the AWD system from the minivans and crossovers. Use 4t65HD internals and make it AWD. THAT would not cost no 15K

I'm sure it's not a simple swap though. The high price of the swaps comes in all the custom fab work and labor that's involved, not necessarily all the parts. IIRC from another thread GXPjay was quoted $20k to convert his to RWD. You'd naturally want to upgrade parts to make it stronger than our standard HD tranny which really isn't strong enough as is along with the fact that that AWD system wasn't used in vehicles with this kind of power. I can just see people doing hard launches all the time and blowing that apart. I'm sure the AWD swap wouldn't be cheap either. Just look at what you spend on a built tranny, you're talking what, 3K probably, and that's just making stronger the transmission that's already in there and designed to fit right into the car.

Well i would be cheaper than an out right RWD conversion. Well as i figure we would already be speding money on a tranny rebuild so that doesnt count. i think this could be done.

Well anything can be done if you're willing to spend the money. It still wouldn't be as cheap as you think it may be though you're still outfitting a transmission that's never been put into one of these cars from the factory.

Someone did suggest this same exact idea last year on here. Can't recall what thread and I'm too lazy to search myself.

you would have to redesign the engine cradle setup or make some sort of motor mounts and then hope to god that you have enough room to make a larger tunnel along with bracing up the new tranny. a bmr f-body setup might be a good starting point for the rear end. easily 10 grand unless you bought a totalled f-body donor car to hack up that had major damage or an lt caprice/impala.

if you had metal working skillz it would be a fun project for less than 5 grand in parts.

You'd have to totally redesign the floor pans the firewall the rear uni-body structure just to get in a rear axle. Not to mention the front end, these things are designed to take the torque from a totally different direction. This body is designed to be front wheel drive, that's it. Not like the old days were they started with a car that was already in production and modified the hell out of it. If memory serves me right the Olds Toronato was the first American front wheel drive car, it had some kinda slogan like, has a flat floor or some **** like that. Either way its nearly impossible to do this swap on a W-body!

I don’t think it has any thing to do with beating on the cars. My best guess is I have 380hp and a bone stock trany; I beat on it like a TBSS guy beating on an LS4 guy on the Internet, and it holding up fine. I think its luck off the draw, there are a lot of these trany out there but no one post any thing up when they are working good.

I had contacted EPP and they told me it would be most likely 20k to convert to RWD and do it right. The guy said I was on crack and I should buy a G8, lol

AWD would be awesome!!
