with my cam and mods on my monte carlo ss i can do 56mph in first 115mph in 2nd then i have to go into the slow zone of third.see my z28 has a strong 2nd and 3rd and a weak first so its kinda backwards but my monte walks all over my buddies 06 mustang gt it has a cam intake tb headers exhaust and a dyno tune and from a 20mph roll the monte holds him off by 6 lenghts all the way to 120 then he widles away at me ,as my camaro would just keep rapin him, its definetly the gearing ,tuning will help but not that much my suggestion is to give her a little spray thats a good medicine for your third gear blues

so maybe i am beating a dead horse but did you see any gains in doing the cam? like on the dyno or on the quarter?

I've easily pulled V6 Altimas on the highway. Maybe it is just your perception (expecting too much) or something is wrong.
