so me an the wife took the 06 impala ss to sanfrancisco today, said i was gettin about 26 on average and 30 on instant, pretty damn good if you ask me, however.. is there anyway way to improve some? i was gonna cut the stock mufflers out an put some flowmasters or magnas in.. and maybe a drop in k&n for now.. would that help me?

None of that is going to noticeably help your mileage. The cat. converter and mufflers are very free-flowing already. The stock airbox/air filter isn't too restrictive, either.

I'd think that maintaining 26mpg on the highway at a relatively steady pace is pretty damn good, considering they dropped the EPA mileage estimates for our cars when the new, real-life testing came in to effect.

Just close your eyes when you see your MPG on strictly city driving.

I run full synthetic oil and noticed an increase in MPG. Highway MPG on my trip to Texas averaged 30 MPG with A/C and full backseat and trunk. Around town I get 18.5-19 MPG.

I wish I could pull off 18 MPG in the city. I see 15.8 usually. I'm going to try a few things though to see if I can get it better. When I get my oil changed I'll start running synthetic.

haha I get 12-15 city tops. and in the winter rarely over 12 and as low as 9.8 lol. buff feels my pain i know that. highway all depends on how i drive anywhere from 25-29. didn't see any difference myself when i switched to Mobil1 early on and didn't see a difference between 89 and 92/93 either.

One thing that helps is dont go over 2500RPM when accelerating. 2000 would be better but thats really hard to do. I have got 30MPG once.
