Default Track Day

I went to the track on Friday. Unfortunately, the best time I could run was a 14.4 @ 96 mph with a 2.13 60'. I was definitely expecting more out of the car since a lot of you guys run faster than that on a stock car. However, I was unable to get any traction. What kind of tires do you guys use and is there a trick to starting off the line with these cars? I have Eagle F-1 tires which I thought were pretty decent. However, if I would even rev it up to 1500 rpms before launch I would spin the tires up to 40 mph and run a 14.7 @ 96 mph with a 2.4 60'. The 14.4 came when I just floored it and didn't bother reving it up at all. It still spun until about 20, but wasn't anything like before. On a positive note there was a Challenger R/T there on street tires that couldn't beat a 14.8. He was consistently running between a 14.8 and a 15.1. On one of my runs I was dead even with a SRT-8 Charger until 70. After that he started to pull slightly. He was on street tires as well and ran a 13.9 and I ran a 14.5.

When compared to those two cars I didn't do too bad. However, how do you guys launch these cars without burning out through or damn near through first gear? I want to get the launch down as I am going to use nitrous my next time out. I hadn't had it re-tuned it since blowing it up a few weeks back and didn't want to use it this time around to be safe.

Any tips would be appreciated. Thx.

Drop air preasuer down to 20 PSI or so, Spin the tires a bit clean them off before u stage. and try stalling it a bit. like 1500RPM use part throttle till 20mph or so.

You can't just floor it off the start, you don't have a awd. You need to easy in to it and feel the tires bite and apply more pressure on the gas pedal as they bite. Practice my friend

One more question. That was my first time ever going to a track and I am new to all of this so I am sure its a pretty stupid question. Does your reaction time affect your quarter mile or is that just a figure to show you how good your reaction was to the light? For example if you had a .1 reaction time and ran a 13.0 could that really have been a 12.9?

No. It does not effect your time. Until you move/cross the starting light, the timer does not start.

What kind of mods do you have? Plus you have to take into consideration the weather. How hot was it where you are?

And if the challenger and charger couldn't break mid 13's thats driver error.

edit: how do those F-1's ride? I've been thinking about getting those when it's time to get some new tires.

Where are you located. A 2.13 60 foot isn't shabby at all. I'm thinking the weather wasn't in your favor.

Just because the Charger and Challanger didnt do well doesnt mean driver error. This could be a track at a higher elevation, where everyone runs slower. I havnt run my car at the track either but you will need to practice. Try playing with the traction control off the launch, it may help. The lack of sticky tires and 18 inch wheels isnt doing these cars any favors on the track, but that was not intention of these cars to begin with. Just be patient and try again. Dont be too dissapointed with these times, its still pretty quick.

What I do after I stage is hold the brake and stall it as high as it will go - around 2500, which requires about 50% throttle. When I let off the brake, I leave it at that throttle position until the tires hook, then I roll into WOT.

My current mods are CAI, tune, mildly ported tb, tb spacer, and magnaflow exhaust. I also have nitrous, but I didn't use it. I was in Brainerd, MN. The elevation in Brainerd is around 12-1300 ft. The weather was low 50s high 40s and rainy. It didn't rain until night, but you could tell it was coming. I feel like the weather had a lot to do with my traction issues. I am going to invest in some slicks for the next time I go. Can I fit a 16" rim over my brakes or do I need to go with a 17?

Humidity kills power. That probally has something to do with your times. go to dragtimes.com ???? i believe is the addy, they have a DA calculator. Really your 2.13 60 foot is awsome for a first time.
