I really thing it's all on how people "break-in" their cars... just like the engine itself... baby it during the "break in period" like the manual tells ya to, then ya start beatin' on it, **** goes south...
from day 1, my service guys told me to drive it like you normally would... if you wanna get on it, get on it! helps everything (i.e. the internals) to seat correctly... which makes sense, since that's what I've always done on my MX bikes... never had one lick of trouble...
so, that's what I did with my car... drove it, and drove it hard - wasn't afraid to put the pedal down all the way with not even 100 miles on it... and haven't had any issues at all for all the 74,xxx miles I've driven it...
and I've done my share of burn outs too... I take the slack outta the tranny before I floor it, and everything's been fine... no issues...

I get on there occasionally now and then. My name was 99gav6. I had a white 99 SE with the 3400. I had everything ported from the block up, headers, mpracing tune, full exhaust. The best i pulled out of it though was a 15.1 at 92. I haven't been back to the track since i had that car though. Kinda nervous about taking a 6speed out there and making myself look silly.

The worst thing about the GAGT was that I went through 3 UIM gaskets and 1 tranny, I trade the car in last year with 84,000km's.
I miss my GAGT my little GTO look alike

Car is a 2006 fully loaded black on black GXP. I paid 31,000 for it, and it just hit 30,000 miles today! Yikes!!! I have beat the **** out of since day one and have had no problems. The trans shifts better then new and I'm getting about 22mpg between city and highway driving. Current mods are in my sig. I'm working on installing a LS6 intake right now with a LS2 valley tray. After I get the intake on and working I will be sending my exhaust manifolds off to get ported and coated.
