Default 2002 GTP LS4 swap?

Has anyone seen this? I just picked up an 02 GTP coupe for free, so I'm looking into what can be done with it.

well it needs a new bottom end, probably a spun bearing. Does anyone make a 3800 stroker?

I say do the LS4 Swap, just so i can see it done. lol. I think it would be rad, but maybe figure out a different tranny setup, maybe a 6-speed?

Then boost the LS4. Only if i had the deeeeep pockets to do this, id do it to my 98 GT. Or you could get with the guy who did the ls6 swap.

Putting aside any repair work that needs to be done, you'd be way better off modding an L67 or even an L36 if it wasn't a GTP than you would be modding an LS4. There's really no benefit to swap in the LS4 other than if you really want to say that you have V8.

I'm here to the rescue for all the LS4 swap information as I'm currently setting up my 98 for it.

I just wanted to clear up that it is not cheap at all to get the 3800 to go fast, and tuning these cars isn't fun. Also they go quicker when you start modding but even the Gen V models only keep up with a LS1 when its been heavily modded.

Ok, a couple of things primer... the trans comes in 2 versions, 1 with tap shift and 1 without... you can buy paddle shifters if you want the tap shift... however you have to have the tapshift trans if you want it to work. I am opting for a non tap shift because I can set my own shift points with my HPTuners software. Also when the trans is in tapshift (manual) mode the trans downshifts and engages overun clutches to help keep the engines rpms up during deacceleration.... it puts more stress on the parts. Ryan at Sinister Drag designs has given me all this information. He's done LS4 swaps in Fieros. He also said it was important to note that the tapshift function was an add on and the trans wasn't originally designed for it.

It is highly recommended to build the transmission before it goes into your car unless you are content with a stock motor. I'm currently building 3 transmissions as we speak, 1 linked 2 a LS4 and 2 for 3800's I plan to sell.

Another thing you will need is a Speedometer Interface Module. Ryan, at SDD, recommended dakota digital SGI-5 in which he tapped into the VSS signal that came out of the TCM on its way to the ECM. You then do all calibratuion through the box.

Hope this helps... the swap is basically a direct swap otherwise

Well thanks for all the info, I really dont know **** about GTP's. Looks like for now I'm going to rebuild the shortblock to get it running until I decide what to do. The LS swap looks interesting, but I'm still not sure about making an automatic FWD car fast. I need some fishtails and a 6 speed.

IMHO, **** the LS4 engine due to the lack of mods.

Put the money into the L67 or L32 with this list:

1. CAI from Wizair or Thrasher
2. Ported TB and S/C
3. 3.0 or 2.8 Pulley with turned down nose
4. Tuned
5 2" thick intercooler
6. XP Hot Cam
7. Trans upgrades...
8. TOG or SLP Headers
9. Exhaust
10. Springs, push rods and 1.6-1.7 rockers to match the XP Hot cam
11. Heads

You will make more power with those mods and have better luck than these stupid LS4 cars.

Primer, there is a company that sells stroker kits but they are god awful expensive... On clubgp however, there is a guy who is selling his built stroked motor and trans for a steal price... cost less than the stroker kit itself I believe... also he even offered to put it in for the buyer if they drive to his place. If you're interested I can try and dig it up but usually clubgp deletes for sale adds after a certain timeframe...

is club gp a good forum? That stroker kit is pretty steep, probably not going that route.

Its a good forum but the guys there tend to bash newbies around and drive them away. A couple other forums to look into are gpona.com and grandprixforums.net

I'm on grandprixforums.net and I like it a lot

Very minimal drama

I'm on clubgp but many are jerks... only reason I'm on there is to browse the classifieds. 3800pro.com is empty. Not many use it.

GPF is growing really fast and the site is well taken care of.
