Default Help! 2006 Impala SS at Dealer for Rear Alignment Problem

So, I just replaced a set of 7000 mile tires because the inside edges of the rears are worn out. After reading about the notorious "Chevy Tepee" rear alignment of 06+ W-bodies, I took the car to the dealer yesterday.

After telling the service writer about the problem, he immediately said a 4-wheel alignment is $145, to which I explained that it probably won't hold it, and that there's a TSB for the problem. I also explained that the TSB would involve the installation of a kit that would solve the problem permanently and should be covered under my 12 month/12000 mile GM Certified Used warranty. The service writer didn't say much to that, so I get the feeling that I'll be in for a fight when he calls later today.

Here's what I need (and can't find!): The name and number of the TSB for alignment, as well as the description. Also, for those of you that have been through this before, what should I say or not say to argue my case? Anyone in particular I should be talking to?

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

hmmm... have 75,000 miles on my 06 Monte, and never had an alignment issue... got 55,000 miles out of the original stock RSA's on it...

interesting...

when I had all 4 new tires mounted, balanced, 4-wheel alignment - my dealer charged me $70 for everything...

Apparently, Montes don't have the problem, only Impalas and Grand Prixs.

Oh yes we do...i went through a set of BFGoodrich KDW's in under 17,000 miles on the rear of the car.

They suggest to align every quarter and rotate every 5K on the dot

Wow..That sucks. With our commute, 7-8k miles is about 2 months.

My monte had the issue but very minor.
My tires lasted 40 000+ miles could have gone longer if the rears did get bold on the inside.

I would not even bother with the dealer. they will **** it up again.
I had a dealer do an alignment, they took my money but did not do ****, took it up with gm got my money back.

145 is way to much for an alignment at least around here. I paid 90 for 4 wheel alignment.

Get a set of camber bolts. You can put them on yourself.
Find a shop that does nothing but alignments and go there.

I talked to the dealer a little while ago and told them about the TSB and camber bolts. We'll see what happens when they call back later.

Meanwhile, they're replacing the TPMS receiver and the keyless remote radio and antenna, as I seem to have all of the typical Impala issues. Hopefully, they'll get the TPMS right this time!

your camber bolts need top be replaced. Im telling you, i have go through all 4 tires with this issue. I rotate every 6000 miles and get alignments often.. I handed them the police TSB Number:08032 and told them i got to have this. I dont care if its only for the police package, i find it bull. After much complaining they replaced the camber bolts and no problems 15,000 miles later

I can honesly say that I haven't had an issue with inside tire wear..I did have an issue with center tread wear which was my fault....Tires were over inflated... If I can make it to November I would have 60K on the stock tires.

Wow...This is an ancient thread.

We still have the car, though, and surprisingly, we've never had another problem with inside tire wear, and we've put 210,000 miles on the car since I made the original post back in 2009.
