Default My Radar and New Wires Issue

I just got my 10.4mm Taylor pro wires put on last week and have been having an annoying *** problem with my radar detector. it is a passport 8500. for some reason since i have gotten the new wires if i open or close my e-cutout the radar detector will go ape **** and blow up saying laser and there are no cops around or anything to make it go off. it has also happened a few times when i go WOT the damn thing will squel and say laser detected. i took it out and put it in my fiances car and had her go WOT and nothing and used a few electrical things that would draw power from the cabin and it didnt do anything......so i am just wondering if the new wires are doing something with the electrical system that would make the radar act wierd like that? any input is appreaciated.

Pro wires are probably competition wires, not street wires. They are not "radio suppression" or shielded against electronic noise as street wires would be.. This usually shows up as a loud hiss on radio but is actually the wires emiting electronic noise which is picked up by close by electronic equipment, in this case, your radar detector.

If you have your old wires put them back on and see if that changes it.

Yeah, go with a good set of street wires, radio suppression, and your problems should go away. You will not lose any performance.

My rocky mountain hasn't gone off yet. That's odd. Maybe a monte vs gxp wiring thing, or it could be the detector. Try putting it in the back seat and see if it still goes off or something.

My 8500 did that also with my GMC Safari AWD. Every time I turned right my laser would alert, also was much worse in bright sunlight. We determined it was a noisy wire harness, most likely from the compass which was in the OHC.

I shut the laser function off, enabled it in the MCSS and it happened once or twice so its still off.

Known issue with the 8500 and noise, its on the internet everywhere.

I'm thinking of trading mine in for the 9500ix or the Redline.

For a couple weeks I had a weird problem with my 9500i it would go off everytime I turned the car on. And there's NOTHING around my house that would ever set it off and local police don't even use radar. Randomly stopped doing it after a couple weeks.
