Default STS Turbo

Ok, I am thinking on doing this early next year and want to see what you guys think. The turbo is a universal kit and I can fab it up to make it work. I am not going to do a twin set up because of FWD so I am thinking on a single turbo. It still should be good for about 500hp to the wheels and 11's in the 1/4 mile. So, shoot away with some opinions. I'd like feed back since I will be a guinea pig once again. lol...

If you have the cash, time, knowledge, skills and patience.......then go for it.....think it would be cheaper then the Cartuning Turbo?

Also do you plan on upgrading your transmission?

A single kit starts at $1,695.00 complete. That is way less expensive than the other turbo kits out there.

Yeah, I was thinking of fabbing up a small I-Cooler for it. I want to get the main components 1st though. I have many ideas floating around in my head for this set up. I even know a great place for the filter placement. I also contacted STS and asked thier opinion and where things should be placed. I'll let you know what they say.

Also a good idea with the STS kits is to get a oil pump to supply oil to the turbo before u start the car. So that u dont destroy the bearings. Especially with rear mount kits i view it to be a very good idea to wrap both exhaust manifolds, cross over and DP. To help hold in as much heat as possible.

I haven't always heard the best things about STS. Then again people have had issues with Cartuning too so I guess that's irrelevant. Naturally any universal setup will be substantially cheaper than a kit that has been custom made and tested to a particular vehicle. Good luck and keep us posted. Can't wait to see the results.

hey uh....you guys do realize that im almost done with mine with the N2O...so nice try trying to be the pig on that one beagle...LOL..beatcha... its not too bad...we are doing the LS4 rear mount...all of our parts and just working with STS right now awaiting some pricing on their solutions etc but we are using all of our own piping for exhaust, compressor side and our IC...Vernan has been great over there...they arent looking for our cars though... but they are going to be helping out with their oil pump wiring harness and oil feed and return and pcv solutions....we already have th IC up and on the car...we have worked with Cartuning too to help take out some of the engineering woes as far as psi, crank hosries and whp limits, MAF, tables etc...the whole meth thing...thats never a good idea to include something on the car that isnt going to be something that comes with the car...its another failure with no failsafe...just tune the dog **** out of it on 91 so when you put some race gas in or even the 94 stuff from Sunoco(highly recommend) you will get your HP gains..the meth is not only for the octane, but to help pad away from the knock and pad the cylinder walls...and act like an octan booster...just use some high octane anyways...and you dont have to worry about a pump failing in the winshield washer fluid resevior...and hope you dont need to wash your windows LMAO...so, yeah...we are on it!!

I had a post up about this for a while a couple months ago....we have talke with STS...they have patents etc...but by working with them and using all their plumbing solutions, they have opended up some of the doors on that...and we are not out to sale it...and they arent either...our cars arent in demand for them...so..it works out in the end...but we throwing in the N2O and FJO mini controller and a T70 on our app...getting ready to get the injectors sent to FIC in GA to get them flow matched, re o ringed and machined to 52lb which is based on my MAX power goal..so they took all my numbers and our 4BAR fuel system @ 58psi and come up with that size injector to be sufficient for my application at a 80% duty cycle.....my power goal is 500-525whp (640-660 at the crank) which is what our factory fuel pumps are good for with a re wire kit...but we are using a walbro 255 just to be on the safe side....and if not, probably a boost to pump from ken belle.

Compression ratio on our motors is 10:1...so that puts us according to LS heads...good for 8-9psi of boost on the factory seals and springs(all the guts)lol...but this is not intended to be used as instructions or as a base to build...this is purely for the purpose of general information sharing...so im not responsible for anything you pull out of this thread...just sharing it with you...lol

If all goes well I will let you guys know where thisngs should go or you could just pay me to do it for you...lol... My budget will be about 3 grand so I think I could get this done for less. The 3 grand is if I run into any problems. Should be a very quick car with all the supporting mods that I have done to it. 4 more mods then I HAVE to add a power adder because there isn't anything else left unless I start porting heads, cam, and things like that. Thanks for the support guys.

Well, I didn't know you were doing that... I guess we'll have two then. Mine won't have nitrous though. I won't be getting this until the beginning of 2010 anyway. Maybe you'll have some advice for me when it's my turn to install it?

Default sounds good...

Hi Mike.

Sounds like a great idea. I came across a used universal kit for change a few months back and thought about it, but I decided to heed my wife's sage advice and not risk breaking something (again) that I wasn't positive I could fix. I like the idea of the rear mount on our cars and I too have a built trans, so keep us all posted. I like the idea of a low cost single turbo option for these cars.
