The tie up in shifting so much doesn't help at all. I see no reason for a car to have so many underdrive gears unless that car is pulling 80,000 lbs. Plus I cant see there being any fuel economy benefits at all. Commercial drivers skip shift when unloaded to save fuel and and improve acceleration. Granted its a different kind of driving but a ratio change is just what it is. A cvt makes alot more sense if thats what they wanted to achieve. I'd like to think there is some sort of skip shift logic which if there is, just adds to more confusion....

Good thing the lexus didn't keep accelerating and shifting uncontrolably right off an embankment....They seem to like doing that nowadays...
