Default the delcos dead

well my battery is finally dead dead. im looking into getting an optima red top i was just curious if you guys that are running them remember the model number? this is what i got from there site but the measurements seem big to me and the original was a pain to get out. not to mention that its like 20* out here. and another thing. have any of you guys ever tried to use the key to get into your car. mine doesnt fit i was just curious cause ive never had to use it and i tried it the other day to lock the car after the battery was dead and found out it wouldnt fit. thank you in advance for any help.

no issue with the key here. I made the mistake of buying an optima #36 instead of a #35. Let's just say....IT HAD TO BE SHOEHORNED IN! But it fit

Mine died here about a week back. I ended up getting the 34-78 red top optima. Hard to find the 35 and the 34-78 model was cheapier (think I paid 140 or so). I got mine at sams club which was much cheapier than autozone was. I did at first buy a Energizer battery that was a 35N I belive and it would not fit. It was to tall to get in there unless you pulled the engine maybe. I had the 34-78 in my older grand prix so decided to try it to see if it would work and it did.

The 34-78 has the terminals on the opposite sides but I just had to cut a zie tie holding the power cables and all reaches just fine. That zip tie is right behind the headlight and that top frame piece. There are three or four of them holding the wires but I only had to cut the first one. The wires still looks as neat as they did (which isnt saying much). One of these days I might do the big three but a little to cold out right now. I noticed looking in the catelog that the 08 GXP got and even smaller battery (by CCA) then the 05-07 for some reason which I found odd.

Anyway best advice for install is to remove the fuse box completely. When you take the cover off you will see 4 bolts down the middle. Loosen those and that releases the wire harness behind there. It comes apart into three piece plus the 4 wire harnesses. Much easier to take the time to pull it out of the way. Then off course remove that diagonal brace

You will have 4 harnesses. Those 4 bolts each hold one in the center. The bolts dont really come out you can feel them loosen then on mine they felt like they were tightening again and that meant they had let go of the wire harness behind.

Delco's dead, whats new?

I went with a red top as well. Great piece especially if you like a system and like to listen to music with the car off in the garage, at BBQs, at meets...etc.

yeah i had it die on me one day in summer when i was running the hazards. and then it snowed here and it gave me a slow start next day dead, went out next day dead dead. the battery was 3 years old and what not but you always hear tales of these batteries that cant be stopped and go strong for a decade. i hope the red top winds up being one of them.

The Delcos can't be as bad as Nissan's Interstate batteries. I once replaced 13 batteries in one day at my dealership.

We get a lot of battery replacements before 10000 miles.
