nice monte, i have a similar set up with my imp, at first i had just chopped off the resonator and mufflers and swapped with delta flow 40s, changed my piping finaly a few months back, from the cat i got 3 inch pipes to a 2 1/2 Y, doesnt make all that much of a difference in sound but it IS deeper, and doesnt rasp all nasty like it use to idk but i think the engine is louder then my exhaust lol i thot itd be the opposite and my ***** pretty loud..
now since i see the loudest i can go (besides open headers) is a cut out.. im thinking of going stealth, have the cutout right after the cat close to were the res use to be, and replace my flowmasters with magnaflows or something quiet, stealthy or loud wenever i want hehe
im broke though, so ive thought about putting the bigass stock mufflers back on.. wat do u guys think? stock mufflers with no resonator and 3 inch to 2 1/2 Y pipe.. will it sound clean?

More cowbell..opps I mean cutout!!
I want to put it as close to the cat as possible. Just dont know what I should do about the ground clearance. If I am replacing the Resonator.
Also what about weather issues. Like water/snow and stuff. On my Z I had a manual cutout this is electric. So not sure how I would go about this..
and who runs thiers open all the time?

i lost about 3-4'' where i have mine but it is gettin moved onto the DP this spring....i think the winter finally claimed mine so ya i guess it doesnt matter since i always had it opened anyways.

So your electronic cutout crapped out from the winter?? hmm..the DP is kinda up and protected by the engine a little right? but man that would be REALLY loud..
Just wish there was a place that I can put it..maybe heat wrap the area so it does not have to angle down so much?

Just wanted to add that I've had a DMH cutout for the last couple months- put it in place of the resonator- the rest of my exhaust is still stock. Definitely still loud even with the cat- the only thing that is irritating is 4 cyl mode, especially under a little load (ie not enough load to put it back to all 8 cyl)- it sounds like a helicopter coming in.
I'm thinking about moving it further back in the exhaust stream once I get into a place with a garage again (just moved to an apt across country)- just because it is pretty loud inside.

ok cool..yea thats what I fear..
and guess what?? This is why I love my wife...this is her DD basically. But she heard a nice stang on the way to work and she calls me and says "When are we putting the cutout on the car!" I need to hear that sound again..we had a cutout on the Z28 she loved it. sounded like a stock car.
I just have to find the best place where I will not bottom out with it or as little as possible. But not sound to much like its not in a good place..AND also get enough exhaust into the mufflers so they do not rot out.

got it on Brand: Summit Racing 2.5"
Placement: (no res) right next to the rear passenger side tire. really easy to uncap and reach w/o lift or jack. prolly easiest out of all the options to place it.
Sound: well its like a mellow loud, cruising its mellow ish but as soon as u touch the throttle its loud but sounds good.

OK thought I would show the pics of my cutout.
And this should be a stickey...
CUTOUT! It is electric but right now I only had them install the cutout and will do the wiring for the switch later on..anyone in MA. care to help me out with that one??
The car is LOUD. It was mounted right after the cat. and I replaced the resonator. The place I went to did a lot of info seeking from me where I wanted it what I wanted and how I wanted it to look mount and so forth. Really good guys and they helped me out. Like all cutouts for this car its cutting into the ground clearance! Right now with it just open and no plate and motor on it its about 1". and with that on in the near future your talking about 2" maybe? So just gotta be careful of speedbumps and the likes.. And second thinking I might just have someone fab up a plate with a 1/2 size smaller hole to go through almost like Borla had...to lessen the sound a little. But thats still a thought.
