I thought that gasoline was more dense in the winter ((cold weather)).....unless your saying they make a less dense gasoline for the winter.....

Yes. I would stay away from shell, citgo and definitely meijer gas. Not sure about marathon...

Exactly. Because fluids are more dense and less volatile in the winter, they reformulate the fuel with additives. Most Northern states mandate it. It helps cold starts.

Sorry, the only states I can say for sure uses winter gas are MI and OH, and that's cause I've lived there. I got curious myself, and apparently there's an emissions component to all of this too. Seems like some major urban areas are mandated to use reformulated gas in the winter. I don't know how up to date or thorough this is, but:

Also they add anti-gelling agents to the gasoline for when it just gets that f*in cold. So your 1 gallon of gas isn't technically as much of a gallon anymore.

Running pig rich, no cat/rear O2... managed 26 mpg from Ruston to Little Rock and back, playing a little both ways. All 8 cylinders, DoD disappeared a long time ago. Never got over 30*, started the trip at 24*.

I used to use Shell, but swapped to Chevron a few months ago, probably not any better. Our only BP closed and is now a Texaco (which I thought was bought as by Valero but apparently not).

the top tier gas stations are as follows

QuikTrip
Chevron
Texaco
MFA Oil Co.
Conoco
Phillips 66
76
Entec Stations
Shell
The Somerset Refinery, Inc.
Kwik Trip / Kwik Star
Aloha Petroleum
Tri-Par Oil Co.
Turkey Hill Minit Markets
Mileage Stations
Road Ranger
CountryMark
Chevron Canada
Shell Canada
Petro-Canada
Sunoco Canada

notice sunoco for north america is absent. Sunoco goes for the cheapest gas and then adds their detergents..that is a known fact. ask any riggers who transport gas.

shell is filtered 7 times compared to the average 2-3 times. on top of that i dont know where you get shell causes more knock..as they have a good amount of heavy alkanes .. obvious depending on your area, your tune, and the amount of ethanol in the mix will determine the likely hood of getting knock.

by the way..BP is aweful gas as of the past few years. id stick to shell, chevron, and if needed..a marathon. but stay away from sunoco and bp for sure

I average 19-20 mixed, depending on who is driving bad that week. In the summer I get 22 mixed. And if I am really good I can squeeze out a 23.
