Default GXP Wheels (cleaning)
hello all, my stock wheels have some discoloration in some of the corners, its like a brownish yellow and no matter what i use it wont come off. i am the second owner and they must not have cleaned the wheels as much as i do. Anyone know of anything that will clean them good??

Whatever you do DO NOT clean them like you would chrome rims, with chrome polish and a soft brillo pad. I totally fucked mine up. How much elbow grease are you using???

do they sell elbow grease at autozone cuz i went and looked and couldnt find it??













haha j/k, yeah im scrubin it pretty good. i wonder if they would look good powder coated black?

Has anyone tried this?

It doesn't qualify as "cleaning" but I am going to try and polish mine this way when I get back from Iraq.

i looked into that for my original wheels because they never looked really polished to me and i figured it was the clear coat that sucked. i personally wouldnt put that paint stripper on my alcoas. theyre pretty shiny as is and i think that would just strip the clear off and make it a constant chore to have to polish them all the time. i do have an attachment for the drill like the ball and that definitely helps.

Yeah I never thought about using a claybar on them, I think I still have one left from the fall, ill give it a try. And yes this winter is killin my stuff!!!

Claybar is one of the best car cleaning tools available...

As for stripping them, yes that has crossed my mind, but only if I got a different set of wheels for winter because those would be terribly hard to keep nice with no coating during winter.

I use mothers wheel polish. Ive had it forever and works well on chrome. I assume they still make it. Try looking for it.

since they are clear coated you want to treat them just like you treat your paint...would you take a chrome polish to your paint? no......wash them up then clay bar them then get some type of polish....this is what i use to get any scratches out.
