The "brown" color of the antifreeze after all this time is normal. The stuff floating in it is likely crusted dexcool additives (GM stop leak as preventative maintenance) that have flaked off the reservoir. It's probably time for a flush & fill for you anyway.

Since they replaced all my Dexcool when I got my water pump replaced last month, I plan to remove the reservoir and clean out the crust once the weather gets a little better.

same sort of thing happened to my brothers 98 S10 years ago. The dexcool was defective and blew his engine a couple thousand miles after his warranty expired. They had a recall on the issue but didn't notice him until he came in with a blown engine and the recall was issued before his warranty expired. They didn't want to cover the problem. It ended up with them covering the labor and him covering the parts which I still think is a **** deal. He'll never buy another GM again. Now that they're Government Motors I'm not loyal anymore. Their arrogance is what has gotten them here in the first place.

If the Monte burns up, mark my words I am going to buy an '88 Beretta GT 2.8 Standard shift and start pocketing cash for a change.

My P/S line blew out a few weeks back, I dont think anyone saw the thread, or they saw it and did not give a hoot.

and hey bodyman im in melrose your not to far from me..

also had my car serviced at castle buick pontiac thats where i got the car from and wow horrriible customer service my reason for trying to ditch GM..and i also heard the crusted brown antifreeze is normal but dont think crusted and antifreeze residue is good regardless so that will be cleaned out as soon as the weather permits.

That dealership should really be providing you a rent car, that's a load of BS that they won't.

I don't think I have this problem, but it's something I need to watch out for.

Angry

I just had my power steering lines and pump replaced under warrenty. I owe to much on my car still lol to let it burn if it started on fire. But it was funny that they did seem eager to fix my steering pump issues first and deal with the leaking crank case and pan later lol. Now I know why

The recall was on Alldata last Aprilish...but only for colder climates. Mine busted and leaked everywhere in Denver on a trip. Went to the dealership, but it was friday and wouldnt be done till monday. Enterprise loaned me the damn 4dr Cobalt, and rented the ImpSS on the lot to the old lady infront of me... This hose actually busted twice...so beware. The second time I got a new pump and belt along with full detail!

Man!! Im so sorry to hear this guys!! that SUCKS A$$!! Ya know...it really depends on the dealer too....not to rub it in but, for example...my car is an 08, has the 100k/5yr warranty or whichever comes first right?...so i have my turbo on...big o charge pipe, oil pump and return, a bunch of lines and my N2O all wired up....i told you guys in the build thread update that I had an oil pan leak....Well, we gotta a guy here in INDY that "Takes care" of us LSx guys with mods....I got my oil pan fixed for NOTTA!! had to pay for the oil though WTF?? LMAO!! and they give me a rental!! so my point again, I think it depends on the situation in comparison with the dealer and if they even need to let the DISTRICT A$$'s know!!! But your situation is def. a lil different....
