just an FYI, if your thinking of making power ditch DOD. While it is very possible to maintain DOD with a cam( i could have done it) there is a MAJOR issue. 4 of the 8 lifters are special DOD lifters. The problem is that those DOD lifters arent made for abuse. They explode.....which is what happened to me.
ditch DOD
just my 2 cents

I certainly hope so. I know this isn't as foolproof as going with comp lifters and a regular cam, but I don't think I'll be pushing the lifters beyond their limits. I put 20,000 miles on the car a year, and if I do break something I'll let everyone know. I really think that I'll be fine, though.

I sent an email to New Era Performance on Sunday (May 2nd), asking if they'd make a DOD/AFM camshaft for our engines. This is the reply I received:
Your thoughts nmp0089?
We can spec you out something custom if you like? It would be $750 for a package kit.
Let me know.

My first thought is what does "We can spec you out something custom is you like" mean? My second thought is that it wouldn't be a bad idea to see what they come up with. I believe that the low lift cam was a request from a customer that wanted less lift for some reason. They could make something a little less agressive, maybe take the LSA down to 112. My third thought is that the current high lift cam is probably going to be more agressive than whatever they cook up for a 5.3L, and as long as I manage to pull some vacuum I'll be fine that cam. My fourth thought is that unless they have a car to do some development work on, you may want to see how it turns out in my engine. If it is too much or not enough, I'll let you know and they can adjust the grind accordingly.

nmp, Sittingmongoose and mpeagle... You guys have a lot of mods and have done a lot of research on these. Thanks for your knowledgeable input.
So for people like myself who have daily driven cars and put some miles on them, what do you suggest? Right now I drive basically all highway and interstate. I'm averaging 21.5 (dash gauge). I know that when you modify you lose mileage in most cases, but it seem a lot of you guys are doing quite a bit without having for forfiet that.
We're going to the track this weekend (rain pending) and I want to go more often.
This is rather different coming from the mustang world and living just a few mintues from work. It was easy to make power and I didn't care at all about mileage.
Thanks in advance, good thread imo

I have a thread on grandprixforums.net that shows what I did to get the LS6 intake on, and several people have posted about the various ways they are improving/refining the swap. It's a great upgrade.
No updates on the cam swap, cause the cam isn't here yet (it takes about 2 weeks for them to get the grind from Comp Cams and mail it to me) and I won't have a free weekend for a little while yet. I'll post a thread about the swap once I do it, promise.

he's almost done, it's almost back together.
for those looking to swap cams.......be prepared for a large amount of work.
And don't drop the altenator nut into the oil return......
