Default GXP Brake upgrade for an 2006 Impy SS

Hey all,

Just like the title says. Got a buddie runing 24in Wheels on his Impy SS. Well he has been complaining that it stops like ****. So i said why dont you get my brakes for it. Well he is not a gear head at all.

What are the differences in the impala ss and the GXP? And it looks like ill be putting them on his car, cuz he has no clue, which is all good cuz he can watch an learn....

EDIT: 22in Rims not 24in.. SORRY!!

What all will we need besides the obvious?

Thanks

Greg

unless yours are twin piston calipers, I doubt it will have any big effect on it....
AFAIK, the GXP rotors are 12.7"(IIRC) and the Impala came w/ 11.9" (atleast 04 prior)

If he wants to improve it, there ARE big brake kits avail ($1k+) or he can use LS1 calipers and brackets (twin piston alum v/s his single piston cast) or see if the 06+ Lucerene calipers are a direct swap (again twin piston calipers)

w/ 24's on his caqr hes going to run into bigger issues, IE trans...
he's not stopping as well b/c he prob has almost twice the weight on each hub v/s his stockers......

I havent done any impala front brakes arent they already dual piston. HIs car is a 06 SS. So would it be worth it to upgrade to the 13in GXP rotors/Calipers. I would think there would be with 13in up front and 12in out back....

Im gonna keep hunting and searching.

I do know that you can get a set of DTS front Calipers off an 06-08 models. They are the same caliper as the GXP, just not painted. Same as the rears but I think the parking brake cable connection maybe different..

Yeah so here's the plan. I told him to stay with the F-body/Impala DUAL piston calipers and we are gonna slap some GXP rear brakes on with good rotors and some good pads. Also some drilled rotors for the front with good pads.

Something to help him stop those fuggin 22in wheels.... Those rear brakes look pitiful on that car. lol.

I believe the GXP calipers are PBR twin piston ones just like the C5 Vette. I recently did a rotor swap on it and the rotors where just under 13 inches-so again just like the Vette's. F body front rotors are 11.9 inches....

There always seems to be so much misconception on forums lol and I didn't even read the whole thread.
