need help with GTP trans
97 GP GTP GM reman trans has gone out for last time(5x)
no more GM warranty. so I want a cheap good one so the car can be babied and last a little while longer(last babied GM reman lasted 8K,which is real sad).
Anyway I found a G6 in local yard thats a GTP 3.9 and wondering whats involved in adapting that trans.
I know I need to change the following:RH axle,trans range selector(Pringle switch),cooling line fittings.
The G6 trans isnt a HD but I can live with that.
Question is the bolt pattern on the 3.5/3.9 same as the L67 3.8?
Anyone know if the bolt pattern on a 3.9 is the same as old BOP pattern thats been around for centuries?
Well since the "O" and "P" are gone from the "BOP" I guess its just called "corporate" bolt pattern?
If youre sure the 3.9 is same I think Ill snag the trans and maybe motor too.

Even the one before that we took the 3 inch pulley and tuned PCM
off and it still didnt last.DRs nor track time havent been done since #3

Do you think they were stuck with the same tranny or no imagination.
Not sure what you mean by this
the 3.6 high feature has a weird bellhousing and it came out at same time the 3.9 high feature did.

The GM METRIC pattern is common to most FWD transverse applications (excluding the Q4, Ecotec, Saturn, N*/Aurora and the new High Feature V6) dates back to the RWD 2.5 and 2.8 v6 applications. It was designed around a 142 tooth ring gear and smaller flywheel (most likely for weight savings/fuel economy). It shares nothing with the BOP pattern and was probably the first metric bellhousing pattern within GM domestic (probably how it got its name).

The wiring mess it involves and the fast basically every internal sensor is different, makes it pointless and impossible. Dave at Triple Edge has tried it and the PCM has to match the TAPShift transmission...and since you can't really use a '04+ PCM in a '98-'03 GTP, let alone a '97...just means get a built 4T65E-HD and be happy. I love mine...and its rated for some serious beating.
theres alot of difference between a $150 used trans
and a $2500 one.
Im so poor I cant even pay attention.....
I did get the PCM along with all wiring and accessories but it wasnt my plan to use any of that, just trying to keep the package together.
