Default oil level dropping

every year around this month when it is around fall and sometimes in summer also, my oil level seems to just drop and the computer will tell me to check my oil level, i had to put in quart yesterday. i know when it gets colder you usually burn a little bit of oil, but this seems like too much. i dont know if its because our motors have the DOD or what but i was curious as to how many other people have this problem, and what the cause of this might be. thanks

whare do you live? It might be something specific with the seasonal air pressure in your area.

I live in the Midwest, and I just had to add a quart Saturday morning too. Past few changes though, I've had to add a quart before my next change.

We had the oil level warning come on the other morning for the first time since we've owned the car. We've put 50,000 miles on it and it never used more than a half-quart between oil changes (usually around 6k miles for us) until this time. We had only gone about 3500 miles, and when I pulled the dipstick, it was 2 quarts low.

I attribute this to a major change on our driving habits that coincided with this oil consumption: Since we live in a mountainous area, we have a lot of places where we would normally ride the brakes. Well, since I don't want to keep replacing warped rotors, we've been using 2nd gear manually for engine braking. I think the additional vacuum generated by this is pulling oil into the combustion chambers, which results in the consumption we're seeing.

How do you drive yours? Do you use a lot of engine braking?

Don't have it, may need to get it. I burn through a quart about every 3,000 miles. I just figured my engine is a magician.

From what I have heard, ls motors tend to use oil.
Mine is a freak apparantly, because is been 3000 miles since the last oil change and is still full.

Mine has been doing well for 2000 miles, staying on full, then the last 2 weeks, (700 miles approx) I have had to add a half quart.. I am attributing the oil consumption to both cooler weather and driving habits, plus I think my conventional oil must be breaking down, as the cold engine chatter is back on startup

i live in north eastern ohio where we always get hit hard with snow. i dont ever engine break unless im just having some fun with my buddies , and i use mobil 1 synthetic motor oil. i pulled the dipstick when the warning light came on and there all of the holes in it were bone dry of oil. just the very tip had a little bit on it after i checked it multiple times. i would say that its been around 2,000 miles since i changed the oil and the car has 53,500 miles on it. i guess its just because it is getting colder out. in the mornings its around 40 degrees and it will be getting even colder as the seasons change
