Default Tires for a 2008 Impala SS

Hey everyone,
So my Dad has an 08 SS, and its tire time. Places are quoting him around $1500??!!

What are people running on these cars? Tire size is 235/50/18 I think? He has the flat faced chromed big 5 spoke looking wheels, the ones with zero lip.

What is the deal with the tire price? Is it just certain tires work with the pressure monitoring system or something?

These tires would need to be an all season thing I guess, he does drive the car in PA winters, doesn't take it out all that often during the winter, but will see some winter driving.

I think the stock tires are on there now, and get him around fine. Some kind of Goodyear aren't they?

So what are you all running? Need recommendations, hopefully save my Dad some money, $1500 is ridiculous!

That's crazy. There's no special tire for the TPMS. I'd check some more places. You can get by with all seasons for probably $130 a tire or so if you're not looking for performance.

Best tires I've had so far:

I will put another set on the car if I still have it when they need to be replaced.

Is the $1,500 for the crappy (and rediculously priced) goodyear rsa's? I have seen these tires for over $250 a piece.
He can shop around and do way better. For that price, it would be cheaper to find a good deal online and then pay a shop to mount and balance them.

Yeah I have no idea what tire they were quoting him for, but I knew it was ridiculous! Thanks for the link on the Dunlops, I'll let him know about those on the rack!

Figured I'd get opinions from people who actually own these cars, not some yahoo in the tire store.

Pretty rediculous.

I work at a tire place. There are some tires that cost that much, but I can get some good sets in the 800-1000 range installed. Crappy tires even cheaper. Shop around. I hate hack places like that.
