Just to clear up a post made in this thread.. I DONT use black tint/clearcoat mix..At first I did but a year & a half ago I switch & started doing them a different way..I feel is better for the lighting & easier to do the lightly tinted tails.. Light tint or light to med tint is the best way to good. Why? Because you want to show off the tinted lights not be getting your ***** busted for them.. Dark tail lights look nice but they are not worth the hassle..

I have been lightly tinting state police cars in MA.. unmarked Chargers & fusions..

Why do cops want their lights tinted. There must be a reason other than to look cool.

So they blend in with "the crowd" and don't look suspicious.

so purely out of interest, how do you do it now, because despite not wanting to pay because i think mine came out quite fine ... yours do seem a bit glossier

so unmarked cop cars can have tints, but they harass kids who do it to their cars ... luckily i think i did mine just perfect and i have never been pulled over for them ... but then again, i dont speed in the daytime and hardly ever drive like a kid anymore ... the tints i used to have are a completely different story

I use a basecoat mix then I clear them..

Cops dont go dark with thier lights..Around here if you do the dark you will get stopped for them..Just do them with a light tint & you wont have a problem..

Where can we find prices for your services?
I tried sending an e-mail to the address from your site, but it wouldn't send.

STUPID ******* MOUSE ... i have back and forward buttons assigned to my mouse on my home desktop, which i use for many things, browsing, photoshop ...etc ...

well they just erased a fairly drown out post/ encouraging pep talk ... suffice it to say, im not retyping it ... so heres the important parts

1- try stuff yourself ( sack up and try, pay someone else if you screw up to fix it )

2- people saying theyre scared how it will turn out pisses me off ( as an avid hobbyist/ tinkerer/ art teacher/ artist ... its like someone saying " i can only draw stick figures " rip my ******* hair out )

3- let me show you a close up of mine and you can tell me if you think i did niteshades or had someone else do it ... and youll probably be wrong ...

4- flips are awesome, so if after all this, youre still hesitant, just use him

- sorry ... the picture i was thinking of is on my laptop and im not booting it up just for you ... but these are close/ good enough to prove my point i hope

they may look completely black now ( obviously the cutout helps retain the original brightness and adds character ) see the second one for nightish brightness

Painting, sanding, clear coating and buffing isn't that easy for the average person. Plus you need the right tools to do it properly, and since Flip is a professional painter I had him do mine. I can do almost anything, I'm a toolmaker/machinist, I make custom parts for W-Body cars as a side job, and I do most of the work an my car, but I leave painting to the pros because I want it to be perfect.

around 4-6 light/ medium coats then 2-3 of clear ...

do yourself a giant favor and at least read my write up over at montecarloforum once ... give yourself an idea of what youll need to do to get them to look like i did ...

it was when i did my headlights but obviously you can apply the process to whatever ...

write-up for niteshades

and Don, im not saying its not alot of work, or hard for that matter, but you saw my car ... can you honestly say its not worth trying if those are the results you could expect ???

and i think you guys are misunderstanding me ...

i encourage anyone to try something theyre comfortable with ... obviously, i cant machine aluminum in my garage like Don can, which is why i bought his braces, i cant do any kind of engine work, because im scared shitless ill **** it up ... but wiring up my headunit, scared the living hell out of me ... but i did it ... sure it took some trial and error but i got it done with help and advice from the shop i bought everything from ...

if youre willing to spend the time to teach yourself, even if it costs more of your time than it would have your money to pay someone else in the first place ... you can still do them again, faster, cheaper and easier down the line ...

what good is not trying ?

Your tails look good when I saw them, evidently you have a knack for that kind of work. I painted your STB bars but I don't think they came out perfect. They look ok, but Flip can do much better.

DrJesus616 is right..Try doing them yourself first.. 04+ grand prix REV lights & 3rd brake lights dont like VHT paints or nightshade..It bites into the OEM clearcoat..The only problem is VHT paint sucks to remove because it gums up sandpaper so it will cost you to remove the stuff if you dont like them.. Adding everything up you will save money by having someone do it for you if you dont have the time to do them..If you are in a hurry.. You will not like them because nightshade doesnt like to be sprayed fast.... Spraycan clearcoat will not have the shine you want.. All the polish & compounds that you will need too..Cheap to have someone do them for you..

if what he says is true about the clear coat youre going to need at least 2 packs of 800-1000 grit for the prep work stuff and you will absolutely need 2000 grit and some kind of polishing/ buffing compound if you expect them to get the same shine ...

best of luck ... feel free to shoot me a private message if you need some tips for niteshades
