Lightbulb GXP Fender Signal Write-Up

As requested. It's my first write-up so be gentle.

First, buy the lights you plan on using, some 3M automotive double sided tape, and some wire, and a nice sharp knife or box cutter if you don't have one already. And a 10 mm wrench.

I used these, $3 at Advance.

The tape.

Any 16 gauge wire will do.

What you'll want to do now is pull this piece back, mine was broken on both sides already...

Push down on those tabs, make sure they can't pop back up, but don't cut or break them.

Once that is done, the bottom two are slightly more difficult, you can either pry from the bottom or pull it down until it pops out. I'm sure there's a better way, that's just how I done it.

When you get it out, use your knife to cut the slats out, so it looks like this.

Now to wire the lights, if necessary.

Pop the lens off and you'll wire the ground in the circled area.

Then, run the wires through the provided hole.

Replace the lens and apply 2 strips of your tape, 2-3 pieces thick on these specific lights.

Pop the hood and remove the headlight by removing the bolt, that I don't have..., lifting the metal holder, and pulling out the assembly.

Disconnect the connector

Now to run the wires. I used a straighten wire hanger, stick it in the fender well until you see it through the vent hole. Tye the wires to the hanger and pull them through.

Install the light.

This is your turn signal.

Undo its connector.

And splice into the light blue wire, ignore my bad taping job, I need to redo it.

Finally, I grounded it here.

Repeat for other side.

If you've done it correctly, you should end up with this.

I recommend using slightly smaller lights, because if you don't get these just right the vents may stick out a little.

We finally get to see some closeups of the paint! DP 08 GXP, help him out!

Oh and...

Pop the hood and remove the headlight by removing the bolt, that I don't have...

Nice writeup!

EDIT: How hard would it be to change out the bulbs when they die out?

Thanks.

The only way to help my paint is high grit sand paper, lol.

Some of it is dirt, too, haven't wash it in a LONG time... There's also no clearcoat.

And my car's missing a few bolts... :/

Thanks for the write-up! That's exactly what I was looking for.

So is that set up to flash with the blinker?

not that i have anywhere to put this, but a good write up with well taken photos and well placed indications on important parts are always fun to read

but then again ... ive been wanting to get that truck bed LED strip and wire it up in the gap between my bumper and trunk lid ... so i could have sequential extra turn signal lights ... and then could black out my taillights even more than i already did

I've been thinking about removing the stock front signal and doing sequentials, too, lol. At Advance they have a strip with white and amber on the ends and one with red and amber. But if I do it, I don't want the long strip, I just want 2 little amber ones.
