It can't hurt to try. It's not like they can deny coverage just because you asked a few questions. I would call GM customer service and ask what your options are. Don't even involve the dealer with that question.

Thanks for all of the advice and input guys! I'm really glad I found this site with people who are knowledgeable and helpful. It's much appreciated.
When GM replaces the trans. with a SERTA trans., do they also replace the torque converter? I'm just guessing, but my problem seems to be related to the TCC because of the material in the pan and similar symptoms to a lot of people on here.
LS1Racing-can you give me a little more info on what you had done to your tranny. I read the threads you had made about what mods you were doing and got a little confused. Could you also tell me how much it all ended up costing you(parts, shipping, and labor). I did go to TEP's website and look through the parts, but I wanted to make sure I'm getting everything I need.
Thanks!

For labor, my buddy's shop did the install. The total for R&R of the trans, install the parts above, and install a shift-kit that I already had, was $600.
So, you're probably looking at around $1200 for everything, installed.
For comparison, a complete trans rebuilt by TEP is about $1650 + $199 for the converter, and another $400 or so for the install. So, a complete TEP trans is about grand more than modding your existing one.
This is why I modded the SERTA trans instead. It was still in good shape and only had about 1000 miles since the install. When my buddy pulled it apart, it still looked good.

Thank you LS1Racing! I sent an email to Dave at TEP and am waiting to hear back from him. The GXP went to the dealer today. You can see the results of that in the other thread "LS4 transmission problem count"

I'm on my 3rd transmission now too on my 2005 GXP with only 86k miles. :-(
Very sad! I love the car, but these transmission issues suck. I don't even drive the car hard at all. I don't even know if another complaint will even help at this point, but I think I'll still file one anyways.

Well just called and made a formal complaint to ODI. My complaint number is 10521084. The girl said they might be getting close to a recall on this, so if anyone else has any issues please call in a complaint!! Even for those who already repaired theirs....If you still have your receipts, you could get full reimbursement if recalled.
This 3rd transmission failed right away with no warning turning into oncoming traffic so that was my safety complaint with ODI.
Now the dealer wants 3k to replace the damn thing. Ugh big sigh

I wish I could say yes, but I'd probably recommend against that.
They want specific info like your VIN, what dealer/shop you took it too and what they diagnosed as the problem, etc. Without those specific details your complaint might not hold any weight and maybe even look to be like a false claim. For now, just keep it in mind and the minute you have a problem/noise occuring then make it happen! :-)
Thanks!!

Pretty cool that you guys finally have some documentation and a means to try and combat this reoccurring issue
What kills off the transmissions anyway?
A friend of mine has an 06 GP with 94k on it (NA 3.8) that is slipping and my mom's 06 GP (75k NA 3.8) so far so good.
I think heat has to be one of the killers of these. On the trip down to des moines this past weekend, the transmission fluid temp was right around 200-210 or so.
Does anybody make or has anybody fabbed up an aftermarket transmission cooler to help keep the temps down a bit?

72K and still going....that's actually really good considering all of the failures I've read about between the GP GXP and the Impala SS's.
Hopefully it will last a lot longer for you!
I would have been probably really happy if my last transmission they installed lasted for that many miles. :-)

You know...I didn't realize this until now, but it looks like this topic has moved over and is maintained at a new website: http://www.gmls4.com/index.php/topic,33.0.html
I was just looking through the sticky's and found it. Probably should send our updates over there since it looks like it's being maintained and tracked over there now. Just posted my complaint on that website.
Thanks!!
