Default 06 impala SS - mod help

Looking into doing some work on my new used impala ss. Now.. im no stranger to modding and ive wasted my fair share of $$$ throughout the years re-doing things. Id like to avoid that as much as possible for the rest of my life lol. Ive done some poking around and havent come up with much. What im looking to do is the following:

Intake
Tune
Exhaust
Smoked tails minus reverse light
Diff color badge overlays
HIDS
Grill

Ive got most of it covered...minus the intake and tune. So please help point me in the right direction as far as thats concerned. Has anyone done something similar with the tail lights here?? or am i on my own there?

I know I threw rocker arms, a TB spacer, and thermostat on my old grand prix and it made a noticable difference. Are said parts really beneficial on these cars? or would they be a waste of money?

Thanks

Welcome to the site.
Mods depend on.....
What do YOU really wanna do with your car? Whats your budget? What kind of looks/gains are you looking for? Have you searched this site?

1st mod
trans cooler and shift kit install. Trans fluid and filter change too of course!

2nd
upper motor mount flip

3rd
Install header wrap over your crossover pipe

4th mod
Strunt tower bars. They are cheap and easy to install

5th
Diablo sport trinity
Remove DOD and use the preformance tune. DUH!!

6th
Hogan catted/catless downpipe

7th
K&N or CAI inc intake kits

8th
Magnaflow exhaust kit

9th
1.8 bolt on rollor rocker arms with LS6 yellow (you have LS6 blues) valve springs.

10th
LS1/LS6 intake manifold
I'm not even going to go into details on this one. Its a lot of work. Do a search if you get this far.

11th
DT headers if your trans is still holding up

12th (which in theroy should be first)
TEP transmission

Yeszir ive searched the site and a few others... Ive been here for like 4-5years. I just didnt have much to say. lol looks like thats changing.

Trans cooler and shift kit?

Hrn
Why change the fluid, i was under the impression that sorta thing shouldnt be done unless its neeeded. i dont want to open up a can of worms with this thing.

As far as plans... I just want some more power and possibly better gas mileage. Similar mods to what I listed netted me great results in the past. An since the lsx is the engine from god, i assumed itd be similar.

As far as for what id like... mid 13s without having to worry bout drivability since this is my DD.

Talk to me though. I appreciate the list you provided for sure, def not what i expected but thats what this is all about.

You would not be opening up a can of worms by doing the trans mods listed above. Look in the stickey section and the cooler and shift kit installs are explained in great detail. GM claims that the fluid is good for 100k. I disagree. Mine was toast at 30k. It was black, and there was crap all over the pan. The converter builds up a lot of heat so be careful by watching those temps.

Don't flush the trans, just change the fluid.

ok...so ive got a new grill setup ordered and HIDs getting put on tomorrow when I pick her up..

Im going to do intake and tune asap still, prob grab the tranny cooler as well...

Any brand/setup for the intake thats right on the money?

Same with the tune, i know a few diff options are always available but its been my experience that their def. not all created equal. Whats the general concensious on that? I know local diablo reps (some real personally hahaha) and have never used any of their products before. always seemed like they were never the best option when it came to my applications...

Any links to a tranny cooler? i havent really looked into that so any advice will just help save me time/money.

You opened up a can of worms when you bought a car notorious for transmission failures. Now you need to make the best of it.

I would change the fluid every 15,000-20,000 miles. A cooler is a must, and a shift kit is recommended, while an upgraded valve body is an even better idea.

As for cooler types, a good stacked plate design like B&M 28,000 GVWR SuperCooler or the big Imperial coolers will work fine.

I think the look of the stock SS tips are good. Only thing I might consider is black/powdercoated.

Funny how everyone says to do trans mods first and everything else is bought first...I see a "Guys my trans died I hate LS4s" thread in the future.
