Default Painted rim mod

I had a rim that I bent a while back and never took to get fixed so I used that to see if I liked the look.

Overall I like the way it looks. The "plasti dip" was very easy to use, no sanding or priming. I did 1 full coat and then a touch up coat and it doesn't look half bad.

Also, YES I know my car's dirty. Yes I know the bbq pit is rusty.

Lowes. "Most" hardware stores should have it.

I don't really know. I've heard that you can just peel it off when you're tired of it without damage to the rim. I'm gonna let it bake in the sun today and go through a few "tests" and see how it holds up.

I painted it yesterday right after a heavy rain. It was about 70* with 90% humidity, so it wasn't ideal painting conditions.

Depending on how this holds up, how hard it is to peel off, and what it does to the wheel underneath, this could be a cool idea for those of us in salt belts to protect our wheels in the winter.

Ok, so I let the rim "bake" for about 5 hrs in the sun(it was only about 68* today) to make sure the paint cured all the way.dum Then I hit it with various pressures from the gun on the hose, I didn't use the pressure washer cause I don't pressure wash my car, and everything was fine.dum There was no chipping or cracking.

Then I hit it with some cheap car soap and a mitten.dum I don't use sponges so I don't know how that'll affect anything.dum I did scrub it with the same amount of force as I did before the paint and there were no signs of damage.

Then I hosed it off with water and let the water sit there for about an hour.dum No water marks, nothing!dum Oh, I also dried it off with a regular dish towel(the old rough kind) just to see if that would do anything and it didn't, but it left ALOT of lint on the wheel!

Then the REAL test:

I jabbed my fingernail into the paint to see what it would do, it barely left an impression.dum So then I scratched at it about 4 times with decent force to cut through it ON PURPOSE.dum Its just split, didn't start to peel or roll back or anything.

Then I wanted to see how well it stuck to the wheel and if it left any kind of marks or stains on the rim, and it didn't.dum It peels off pretty easily, but keep in mind I've only had it on for about a day.

The main thing that I'm worried about is how it'll hold up to this Texas heat.dum I'm curious as to what it'll do.

I just quoted myself from gmls4.com

Let me know if you guys need anymore info. This rim will stay the way it is untill I decide to get it fixed.

When you do a lot of braking the wheels can get hot, so it might melt the plastic coating.

I thought about that too, but the guy with the G8 GT I stole the idea from has yet to have any issues and he's been to track with them like that. I'm hoping that since my Impala's not my DD anymore they'll last a while.(fingers crossed)

I thought about it when you first put them up for sale, but I need something with a lip, I don't know why!

I'm glad you sold the radials, sorry I couldn't make it up there to buy them. My 3-4days in McAllen turned into 26days, then I had a mini-job here this week while my girl drove to Austin without me!

so ive been looking into either painting my rims, vinyl wrapping them ... or doing this, initially just to see if i like the look ...

my rims are not as bright as they should be( or at least how i feel they should be after only 5 or so winters ) so i guess its time to mess with them, or just buy new ones ...

impss07, how much was a can, and how much coverage did you get from one can with two coats on the rim ???

i guess if i do it, and like it, ill let it sit for a few months and then peel it off and then paint them properly
