Bowtie Overlay Install

Nope, I removed the yellow bowtie just like the directions stated. You just have to find something thin enough to get into the seam and work it out. I think I used a pick to start it and then worked in a slim screwdriver and just popped/pryed it out. Just be careful because you don't want to damage the remaining part of the bowtie. Both bowties snapped in half while taking them off. Scared the **** out of me when it happened lol but it makes it easier to remove the rest of the bowtie because you don't need to work near the edge. Once you get them off, there is a small layer of foil you will want to remove before you put the overlays on.
I just followed the instructions. But if Mike690003 did it without removing them and hasn't had any problems, it's up to you what you want to do. Just be patient if you're going to remove the bowties.

I'm just throwing this out there... I wouldn't install them... just mask off the bowties, clean, paint, and clear. It looks WAY better because it has dimension, the liquidomes are nearly flat. I used a liquidome on the back and hated the results, so I painted the front and it looks great. I've had the front painted for over a year with no damage to the paint. I'm going to be buying an OEM replacement bowtie for the rear to paint.

I like the way the liquidome looks, plus I already have the decals.
They were a gift so I am going to try and use them.
If I don't like the look then I will just order a new F/R Bowtie set and paint them.

Liquidomes are INlays, not overlays - I think that is where the confusion is. I have overlays on my wheel centercaps and steering wheel. Inlays on the emblems front and rear. You really DO need to remove the gold for liquidomes. I gave mine some depth with 3M heavy duty tape. I removed gold, applied 3M tape for depth, and then inserted the Liquidome INlay.

I just have **** poor luck being happy with things I paint and properly colormatching. Liquidomes are down to 21 bucks each on the site. If you know how to paint, I agree with you - If you don't, Liquidomes are a great alternative. I also cannot take credit for the 3M idea - got it off somebody at NAIOA a year or so ago.

Just an Update for future searches if others want to go this route.

I installed the rear bowtie overlay and it looks terrible...no depth and no dimension, and despite my best efforts of cleaning and making sure the surface was level, I used some extra 3M tape to level the area, the overlay is wavy and dimpled.
I am painting the front one and I will either remove the rear bowtie and replace it with a new one(painted) or just leave it off the car.
