Default Transmission hot after cooler install

I had a 20,000gvw tube and fin cooler installed about a week ago and while tooling around town today and looked over and saw that my tranny was running 244degrees. Before the cooler it wouldnt get above 230. Wondering if I made a mistake by getting the cooler or if maybe the temperature sending unit could be messed up. I bypassed the factory cooler btw.

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Why did you bypass the factory cooler?

Because the engine coolant runs at 210degrees or thereabouts. So the best it's going to do for the tranny is going to be that temp (kind of the high to low till balance effect). And although probably not common, if the factory cooler were to fail you would end up passing coolant into the trans. I would assume that would play hell on clutches.

The theory made good sense. And the fellow at the trans shop agreed that it would be best to bypass the factory one.

I have mine run after the factory cooler, so I use both. Mine never goes over 170 even with city driving. I would recommend the installer run the cooler and radiator in tandem. I would also change your fluid and filter in the tranny via a pan drop method. DEXTRON VI only.

I had the fluid and filter changed (not flushed) while it was in. I'm not 100% but I think the temp sensor may be messed up. It's about 85 outside today and when I first turned my car on and before it had a chance to warm up any it was reading 102. Damn computer control junk.

I believe flushing is not recommended on our transmission, just drain.

yea, thats what the trans guy at a local shop said. he said that "the pressurized flush pushes stuff around that doesnt like being pushed around and will in turn steal your wallet" (his words)lmao.

I plummed my cooler into the return line, still using the radiator, maybe you kinked a line and its restricting flow, make sure that isnt happening or youll have a failure soon.....but 230 alone is high as ****, it was a high of 76 today and my trans temp didnt go over 168 degrees after about 45 mins of driving, mostly highway, but when in stop and go city traffic, it rises rather quick, but plateaus as soon as I get moving

the other day it was a high of 60, trans temp rose to 163 in stop and go, hit the highway and by the time i got home it was at 154

well damn. im in no position to replace a transmission right now. i guess i will crawl around on it in the mornin and check for pinched lines. if it comes down to it i will just take it back to the trans shop and have them hook up the radiator cooler into the loop. hopefully its an easy fix though. im gettin tired of spendin $$ on preventative BS.

mine has been around 200-205 past few days. Outside temp. In 70s.
last year, mine got upto 230 on 90 days. Fluid change seems to make it a little cooler.

I run dual oversized coolers with a fully built TEP tranny with a finned pan...ill see it go up with ambient temp...example...70* will give me a 160-170 80* will give me a 175-185 and 85 and up I will see 195-210...so if that gives you any idea about what these temps should run or will run...I pass through the radiator too...I dont have the bottom shroud to bring in air from outside...I just rely on SPEED! LOL...it will get up there though on a hot day and no movement...and it probably doesnt help that my FMIC is up front hogging air too...
