GM is making a part to stop oil consumption
I'll take mine in next week and at least get things started and see what they say.
Oh, also getting what sounds like piston slap once in a while. Is this related or is it something else? If I can talk them into replacing the pistons and rings, I'll be happy.
Car is an '08 with 83K so I am out of warranty... Any word on how much this costs?
I've had the repair completed (top end decarbonization and oil pan gasket replaced) and my oil consumption is acceptable now. It actually does not consume oil now at all, but I credit some of that to Overkill programming my PCM to have DOD active only in 4th gear.
Mine will still puff smoke like yours, so this does not repair that concern.
Labor time to complete repairs would likely be 9.1hrs, plus parts.
See my original thread for part numbers. https://ls1tech.com/forums/ls4-perfo...l-fix-ls4.html
The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
Copied from General Motors SI for a 2006 MCSS:
Displacement on Demand (DoD) System Description
System Operation
General Motors Displacement on Demand® (DoD) engine control system has the ability, under certain light load driving conditions, to provide maximum fuel economy by deactivating 4 of the engines 8 cylinders. The engine will normally operate on 8 cylinders in V8 mode during, starting, idling, and medium or heavy throttle conditions. When commanded ON, the powertrain control module (PCM) will direct the DoD system and deactivate cylinders 1 and 7 on the left bank and cylinders 4 and 6 on the right bank, forcing V4 mode.
It doesn't specify what transmission gears it is active in.

Perhaps Lew can chime in and shed some light on this!
