The dealer called me about a month ago but I didn't return his call. I already disabled the DOD which stoped the car from burning oil so I see no reason to take I in.

From what I've read about this issue with the '07 Suburban's 5.7, it's an oil baffle installed in the oil pan. It only works about 50% of the time. Tuning seems to be the trick. However, if your car is under warranty, I'd stick with the GM fix. Maybe they've gotten a better fix now.

I talked to pontiac customer service 2 weeks ago and as on then it was still not available. The dealership recommended constant oil changes, fuel injector top end cleaner and oil additives to keep the rings from seizing.

Yeah, at the rate it's going, I'll probably have to put in another 2 or 3 quarts before the oil change is due. Isn't burning this much oil bad for the cat and/or O2?
I'll take mine in next week and at least get things started and see what they say.
Oh, also getting what sounds like piston slap once in a while. Is this related or is it something else? If I can talk them into replacing the pistons and rings, I'll be happy.

Anybody have any updates on this? Was the bulletin updated or another issued? I also have the smoke occasionally when the DOD kicks off, usually after coasting and then tapping the accelerator.
Car is an '08 with 83K so I am out of warranty... Any word on how much this costs?

The bulletin has not been updated.
I've had the repair completed (top end decarbonization and oil pan gasket replaced) and my oil consumption is acceptable now. It actually does not consume oil now at all, but I credit some of that to Overkill programming my PCM to have DOD active only in 4th gear.
Mine will still puff smoke like yours, so this does not repair that concern.
Labor time to complete repairs would likely be 9.1hrs, plus parts.
See my original thread for part numbers. https://ls1tech.com/forums/ls4-perfo...l-fix-ls4.html

My 2006 MCSS would enter DoD in 3rd gear prior to the reprogram.
Copied from General Motors SI for a 2006 MCSS:
Displacement on Demand (DoD) System Description
System Operation
General Motors Displacement on Demand® (DoD) engine control system has the ability, under certain light load driving conditions, to provide maximum fuel economy by deactivating 4 of the engines 8 cylinders. The engine will normally operate on 8 cylinders in V8 mode during, starting, idling, and medium or heavy throttle conditions. When commanded ON, the powertrain control module (PCM) will direct the DoD system and deactivate cylinders 1 and 7 on the left bank and cylinders 4 and 6 on the right bank, forcing V4 mode.
It doesn't specify what transmission gears it is active in.

Perhaps Lew can chime in and shed some light on this!

I can verify the 3rd and 4th gear DoD on the GXP's. Drove me insane so I had Dave tune out 3rd when I had the trans done. I have it completely off in the tune now and will have it removed hardware wise very soon.

The Buick dealer is repairing my engine again. Last I heard they are replacing the pistons, rings and not sure what else. Will update with what they do and if it helps.

GM put on the new updated oil pan gasket in July which didn't help the issue so GM approved installing new pistons and rings. All is good so far with two months in and 2000 miles on the car. Car had been burning oil for the longest time. I figured since I was still under warranty why not get it done before I sell it next year.
