noob intro
hey guys (and gals) i wanted to introduce myself.
i recently bought a 2008 impala ss. 46,000 miles on the clock, 2 previous owners, bone stock for the moment. i traded a 2000 buick gs with 163,000 miles on it, and it had a 3" dp, 180* stat, and homemade cai. i was a member over at regalgs.com.
looking to learn the ins and outs of these cars. future plans are K&N or CAI intake, exhaust mods, and a tune.
paticularly interested in avoiding the trans problems i have read about, and to learn how i can eventually get a "lewtune".
i'm a cop and in the air national guard security forces. wife, 3 kids, 3 boxer dogs. that about wraps it up.

nice car and welcome, a trans cooler and a trans go shift kit should be first on your list of mods to help with the trans issues, the cooler being first. Dont do trans flushes, rather drop the pan and change the filter/fluid via that method.
A diablo tuner will get you the "lewtune" and would be a good next step, after that Id start with the exhaust/intake

so if i can't get a lew tune with a diablo what's the next best thing? anyone here use a trifecta? supposedly they ship you a programmer, you upload the tune, save the stock tune, and ship it back and they keep the stock on file for you.

these trans' are real soft shifters, which means that theres a lot of overlap between gears, which causes wear to the clutches and excessive heat gets produced, a shift kit will reduce/eliminate that overlap
shift kit is a VERY good idea if you step on the gas every now and then, beat the crap out of it or even just drive it a lot, definitely worth it. Im about to do one to my GXP, already have the cooler installed
