Big Brake Kit
Hey guys,
A big brake kit is in the works for us GXP owners. This really could apply to all W-body cars, but the way this kit will be laid out (at least initially), it should be an easy bolt on, straight forward kit for the GXP.
Features:
Price? No clue at the moment. Nothing outlandish though. Two new calipers cost ~$300+ so that gives you some kind of idea.
Test fitting the caliper over the OEM rotor. I knew this wouldn't be a problem. My main concern was WRT the OEM wheel offset.
Here's the complete setup on my car with the GXP's OEM 12.7" rotor:
As you can see, there's more than enough space between the spokes and caliper:

Features:
- 4 Piston Brembo Calipers powdercoated red with "GXP" logo, then powdercoated clear; no more missing logos.
- Use of OEM wheels. No spacers necessary; Alcoas [and presumably the knockoffs] fit with no issue.
- Use of OEM brake lines. Saves money versus buying stainless steel brake lines.
- Better stopping power along with the improved caliper look.

Rears are tricky due to the e-brake setup.
While the GXP and CTS-V share the same e-brake setup (drum in hat), there are size differences (hat height, shoe diameter, etc.). It'll be invesitagted as I have rear 4 piston calipers as well.
Wider wheels would be needed to accomodate this. Since this is a GXP brake kit, it's gonna be a while as the GXP rear wheels have a different offset.
I do have an extra set of 18x8s that will be going out back, but that's only gonna happen in a few months or so.

I heart Dave.
And yes, this guy picked Dave's brain for a couple weeks, then decided he could come here and try to sell the setup like HE was doing the R&D. The only R & D this gxp25 guy has done is ask questions about what has already been attempted.

i never get tired of seeing the brakes on that panda........
so if im reading this correctly, and this really is a direct bolt on kit that will fit OEM wheels no problem, then i will purchase this kit without hesitation.

I was the one who spearheaded the GXP lowering springs kit. I made no money off of it nor would I ever want to. In fact, I had to spend money on purchasing the test springs. I also had to edumacate myself on how to install them and did them myself. I do this because I want to. Any benefit I receive, I pass it on to the community. I have a few more up my sleeve. 6 speed automatic will be next...
As for making attempts, this was all started by the vette and F-body guys. But if you really want to get down to it, anyone with access to the CAD data could easily have said if this would have worked or not.
That'd probably be on the list. It'd be cheaper too. I'm assuming you'd want to paint them yourself as to remove the "V" logo.
Or that too.
And yes, straight up, bolt on, no issues kit with OEM front GXP wheels, brake lines, banjo bolt, etc. I'll know for sure once I get rotors.
Basically, this kit is mainly for GXP owners as a straight forward, bolt on kit, which retains the factory wheels we love, along with the drilled rotors (now 14"), and red calipers with "GXP" logo (now 4 piston Brembos, painted).
For other W-bodies, you start to run into issues with wheels and whatnot. If anything, I'd like to get the guy with the SS who lives here in town to try these out.
But really, no, I don't own a shop. No, I'm not making these kits. No, I'm not making any money off of this.
I already have my own money invested in these calipers and plan on spending more for rotors and powder coating.
