Switched today to Navigation and I had a signal without placing the GPS antenna in the oem location. I noticed that the signal is sometimes weak and a slashed GPS appear from time to time. I'll keep a close eye on it.

I believe I found the factory wire extension that goes from the GPS antenna to the back of the radio. I ordered the ACDelco wire today and I will have it on Wednesday. I will post the information when the wire arrives, I just want to make sure it's the correct one before posting any info.

Now if anyone knows if there is a wire harness that goes from the X3 plug on the back of the nav unit to ???, my prep of the wires and car will be complete and I can install the navigation unit.

If you have the part number of the harness, can you tell me where the other end of the harness plugs into (IE Onstar unit, Etc.)

Thanks

These harnesses aren't just going to be laying around for you to purchase. If that was the case, then why would GM offer these add-ons as factory options?

Your best bet is to order the connectors using the part numbers from the images provided on the previous page. These connectors usually come with pigtails. From there, you'll want to find the correct terminals that the VCIM connector uses so that you can "complete the circuit" so to speak. Most likely, your VCIM connectors will be empty in the locations I provided.

I found the plug with the pigtail but I also found the ACDelco GPS antenna factory cable lead (eliminate extending the GPS antenna lead) so I hoping to find the same/similar thing for the X3 port. In time I will find a prebuilt harness for the X3 which will be a better setup.

Thanks for all of your help.

GXP25, I pulled the plugs (X2 and X3) on the VCIM and I can see where to splice the wires into except for X3, pin 4 that position is empty which mean I would need a wire end to insert into plug X3 after crimping the wire. Does that sound correct?

VCIM:

X2, pin 9 - populated in the plug
X2, pin 10 - populated in the plug
X3, pin 2 - populated in the plug
X3, pin 4 - empty

I found a GPS extension cable so the GPS antenna can be mounted in the factory location.

ACDelco 88988921

The cable is 82" long with a male and female end.

I made a mistake when I posted the above VCIM pin locations. I didn't see the J1, J2, J3 and J4 stamped on my OnStar module and my GXP only had J1 and J2

I found a 2006 GXP (with factory navigation) and was able to get the X3 Radio/Nav plug.

I also noticed the 2006 GXP had a third plug on the OnStar module at J3 and I have that plug now. If I use GXP25's posted info for terminating the X3 plug from the nav unit, it makes the wiring of the voice part of the nav unit easy.

Per GXP25:

From nav X3 plug, Pin 3 one lead of the wire goes to VCIM X3 (J3), pin 2 (see photo) listed as pink.

From nav X3 plug, Pin 5 one lead of the wire goes to VCIM X3 (J3), pin 4 (see photo) listed as pink/black.

From nav X3 plug, Pin 3 one lead of the wire goes to VCIM X2 (J2), pin 9 (see photo) listed as gray.

From nav X3 plug, Pin 5 one lead of the wire goes to VCIM X2 (J2), pin 10 (see photo) listed as bare.

Everything matches up good.

GXP25, I have one more question, can you tell me where the black wire from X3 (J3) (OnStar module), pin 5 goes to/used for?

Thanks

That's a bare (exposed but wrapped in electrical tape) drain wire (circuit 1782). It's the only one of its kind (by circuit number) per the service manual so I'm not so sure where it goes.

You could connect it to another drain wire though.

Thanks, can you tell me where the nearest drain wire (similar to) would be located so I can splice into? IE: X2 (J2), pin 10?

Any luck guys?
I posted on the first page saying i bought the one antenna and had a red slash and well the cord was short..

Ive been reading up on this more, I noticed the Corvette guys (have the same radio as us) they use part number 15821094 and the cords are way longer then the stnd 12inch.
The connections are the same, im just wondering if i should bite on this thing or not.. its 50 bucks for the antenna.

if your google that number, you can see just how long it is. they can curl that wire way more then what i can with my other antenna..

31" should work from the original mounting location to the radio, one problem is the mounting bracket is different.

You could use this cable with the factory Grand Prix nav antenna:

ACDelco 88988921

The cable is 82" long with a male and female end.

This part number worked for my on my 08 gxp. i never was able to get the red X off the GPS sign. this took it off and works prefect. has enough cord to actually pull out the radio while the antenna part stays in the dash.

Its 50bucks off ebay. thanks for all the help. an 82" ext cord is not worth it btw.

Since I'm big on GM factory setup's, I purchased a new GM dash wire harness (25814930) for $280.00 and installed it over the weekend. Now my non-nav GXP is setup just like a factory Grand Prix with navigation. I found a "refurbished for GM" 15263106 Navigation Unit still in the box with the plastic on the screen. I will have the nav unit in my hands the middle of next week.

For anyone interested in a GPS antenna for a Grand Prix (2008 and?), I have a GPS antenna (15821094) with a 28" long lead. It has a factory Grand Prix mounting bracket from GPS antenna (15821030). Basically it's a factory GPS antenna that will mount into the Grand Prix factory location and the 28" lead is long enough to reach the nav unit. No need to tape it somewhere in the dash. PM me if you're interested in the GPS antenna.

Installed the remanufactured navigation unit and had the radio programmed. That was the correct way of doing the mod. Factory dash wire harness, factory remanufactured nav unit and factory GPS antenna. Works exactly like factory installed navigation with information displayed in the HUD.

I just picked up a 2009 Corvette VCIM with Bluetooth. I'm bonding on (3) mounting brackets so the VCIM will mount in the factory location. I will post a picture of the VCIM with the brackets bonded on in a couple of days.

Did the Red slash ever come back or has it stayed off?

the other day i went to use the nav and noticed the slash and the map was way out of wack even with my re positioning the car a bunch of times.

pulled out my radio and noticed my antenna came back and stuck to the center dash speaker magnet, so i moved it and pushed the antenna all the way to the front and fastened it down and works perfectly again. Window tint can interfere with the GPS signal, so im thinking that was playing a roll with it.

Anyways, works good and antenna cord is deff long enough now
