Default Harmonic Balancer............

Mines on its way out , looking into changing it.

Dealer quoted me 360.$ :l

I can change it myself but i need to know if there is any aftermarket one available , i saw some discussion about it from threads past but it doesnt look like anything ever came to fruition.

Anyone?

What are the signs that the harmonic balancer is on its way out ? Are they visual or you start feeling some sort of vibration ? Just curious

I think I remember someone's loosening up and the bolt can only be torqued once. If it wobbles long enough the hole might get bigger.

No aftermarket support for this that I've heard. Order a new bolt and Balancer from WWW.gmpartsdirect.com

I've never seen a Balancer have a serviceable "bushing"? The Balancer itself has rubber separating the inner and outer of the pulley itself to dampen vibrations. Usually this is what deteriorates creating problems.

Default New balancer

I am not sure who is quoting $360 for a balancer, but I just bought 2 from my local chevy dealer for my LS4 and they only list for $209.00 and with any kind of discount they can be had for around $150.00/$175.00 or so @ the dealer.

Go thru gmpartsgiant.com to get the balancer bolt and balancer. They sell parts at wholesale cost, so you save big bucks!

You will also need to rent a puller and installer.

In order to remove the balancer, you will need to drop the cradle and use a impact gun to remove the bolt. If you do not have access to one, then you will need to use a flex plate holding tool (GM specific) with a large/long breaker bar.

The balancer bolt needs to be torqued and the streched, so you will also need a torque wrench with a 1/2" drive angle gauge.

This might seem like lots of work, but I can do the whole job in about an hr. Do take your time though, and good luck.

On my old GTP, I've used a pair of vice grips on the flywheel to keep the engine from rotating. There's a small black plastic cover on the bottom where the engine/trans connect. Take out the one or two 10mm bolts and remove the cover to expose a small portion of your flywheel. You won't ruin it with a set of grips. Its hardened steel, and I doubt you can squeeze hard enough to damage it.
As far as the pulley puller, you should be able to rent one from Advance Auto or Auto Zone.

I live in Canada , our pricing is alot different , especially on specialty stuff like this..
And i get 10% above their cost...

I used a prybar on the teeth to hold it in place.
And the bolt is called Torque to yield...

They are supposed to be single use , but a lil bit of lock tite and its good to go...

Dropped the cradle , replaced the HB , and bolted it back up , ill finish the rest off after work tommorow night.

If your vin starts with a 2 it was built in Canada , a 1 or a 3 and it was built in the USA.
