Default Wheel Clarification

I did search and did read that the Grand Prix GT 17" wheels should fit the GXP. I just wanted to make sure because the GT rim is a 17x6.5 vs. 18x8 and 18x7. Planning on putting 235/55/17's on.

Using GT wheels on the GXP, do I have to do anything different for the Tire Pressure Monitoring System or are they interchangable?

Thanks...

The 06 has the TPMS in the hubs. The GT wheels will be fine.

Will going to a 6.5" wide wheel with the 235/55/17's provide enough winter traction? I've been trying to find this out and the dealers are telling me that going from the 8" and 7" stock to 6.5" may be too drastic but they didn't know for sure.

The different size rim wouldn't have any effect on the grip provided. I believe 235 wide tires are what's on the rear of your car anyway. Sure you'll be going from a 255 to a 235 up front, but I wouldn't worry about it. I'd rather have 4 235 wide winter tires than any size summer tires.

I don't remember the tire size, but I run Buick 17" x 6.5" wheels with snow tires in the winter and traction and handling is fine, but I don't push it.

well it looks like I'm only looking at $100 difference buying the tires locally and the used GT rims vs buying everything through tire rack with 7.5" new rims becase I just found out they don't add sales tax.

I thougut i'd save more buying the wheels used. Maybe Im better off with tire rack. You guys generally have good luck.

Yep ordered tires from them a few months back and received them in 2 days. I'm not really that far away from them, but I was still impressed.

Well your going to see a significant loss in traction and handling.
A)Yes the 17's will fit
B) Stock is 255Front/225Rear

The tire pressure monitors are confusing me. Tire rack gives an option for these $160 sensors for the wheels but the one post here said they're in the hub. The dealers I've called either don't know or tell me the sensor is in the wheel. If I'm ordering the brand new wheels is there anything else I'll need or does it just take standard valve stems an no TMPS hardware is needed in the wheel?

06 GXP doesn't use tire pressure monitors. It some how uses the wheel speed sensors. So no TMPS hardware needed.
